Well, the seasons have officially changed. I have eked as many wears as possible out of Ethan’s light summer rain jacket and will now need to move onto something with a bit more padding for the cold morning walks to school. I also brought out his wellies from hibernation this morning only to find that the no longer fit. I seem to constantly forget that kids grow because I get secretly annoyed everytime I dig out something only to find that it no longer fits from last year (which of course it was never going to). After an extensive hunt online, here are my picks from what the high street has to offer the sproglets as the leaves start to fall.
Next
The pointed hood and tassel detail of this baby cardigan and the fact that it comes in a multitude of colours makes it a great basic. I also like this little fluffy sheep jumper. But my favourite of the baby knitwear range is an adorable hooded bunny jumper with asymmetric wooden buttons and floppy ears! It would make a perfect baby gift. The same bunny face is printed on this super cute crew top. I always feel like Next really excel in their girl’s section and in particular this season I’m loving this raincloud knitted dress with pom-pom raindrops, of course. And this beautiful floral mac.

George at ASDA
I love a yellow raincoat and while I know Ethan needs a thicker coat, he has seriously outgrown his raincoat and I’m now eyeing up this one. And at £16 it’s a complete bargain for boys and girls alike . I’m also loving this chunky knit fisherman’s jumper, it reminds me of one my Dad used to wear in the 90s. For babies, I’ve just ordered this super cute set of woodland creature sleepsuits for Finn. These pink fringed boots are perfect for toddling tots. For older girls, there’s a super positive slogan jumper reading ‘be yourself’ and ‘be unique’, with an embellished swan on the front. I have noticed quite a lot of swan details on girls clothes this season.

H&M
I think babies in fine knits are adorable. This grey pram suit and mustard all-in-one are two of my favourites. Last year I bought Ethan some red high tops from H&M and he is refusing to let them go. He loves them more than his Converse shoes, so I’m going to buy these tan, lined pleather high tops as a seasonal replacement. I also love these gold polka dot high tops. Ethan also owns and loves this H&M pom-pom hat. Fleece lined and with earflaps it’s perfect for the colder months and I highly recommend. For Finn, I’m definitely buying this cream cable knit jumper, I love babies dressed like old men! I spotted this jumper dress which looks like it’s straight from Joules, but with a more modest price tag of £9.99. And this gorgeous mustard jumper with floral undershirt for effortlessly smart dressing.

John Lewis
I’m not usually a huge fan of obviously branded clothing, but I really like the placement of the logo on this Joules raincoat. And of course, we can’t mention Joules Autumn/Winter without their statement floral wellies (I particularly like this shade of lilac grey). Another old man jumper for the littles. And for the girls I spied this beautiful Boden star print jersey dress (I especially love the collar) and this Hatley horse print raincoat (fully lined with Sherpa, so perfect for right through the cold snaps). Lastly, I couldn’t visit John Lewis without checking out the latest Bonds Wondersuit range. Ethan lived in these in Australia as a baby, but in the UK they are rather spendy. Definitely my fave sleepsuit brand though. Be sure to take advantage of the regular offers on these. They wash like a dream.
M&S
Marks & Spencers, Marksies, Marks & Sparks, the institution that is, are my favourite for kids staples. Finn owns a couple of these gorgeous baby cardigans, with multiple colourways and the most adorable lining ever… I think every baby should own one. I think I’m going to buy Ethan this quilted coat, it looks very toasty and the quilting makes it a touch smarter than the average puffer jacket. Also in my cart for him is this dark checked shirt and this ochre gillet. This 3 in 1 Fisherman jacket is genius. It has a detachable puffer coat lining so will see your littles right through winter and even into fluctuating temperatures of spring. I also love this two piece dress and tights set, it gives me Pochahontas vibes.
Name It
And last but not least, one of my favourite kids brands. The clothes from Name It are such high quality that I find myself going back to them again and again. A friend bought me a beautiful Ted Baker pram suit for Finn, but it’s 6-9 months so I need something in the meantime and I think this pram suit would be perfect for bundling him up for the school run. I love the frill detail on this baby bodysuit. For bigger girls, this wool knitted dress would look gorgeous with tights and ankle boots. And this delicate floral printed sweatshirt with soft brushed lining should be made in adult sizes! Both boys and girls could get away with this knitted pom pom beanie, although once again, I want one for myself.
Who is your go-to for kids clothes?
I’d love to see your favourite kids finds too.
Also… Does anyone else get the secret rage at how fast you need to replace kids clothes?!
Love these picks Naomi! My babies always had those cardigans from M&S – love them! It is a bit gutting how fast they grow out of clothes but at least now you have 2 boys you can justifiably buy lovely things for Ethan knowing they’ll get another turn in a few years! 🙂 x
So true Sarah! I have already found myself bagging some nice trousers that Ethan has grown out of to keep for Finn. I just hope the trends haven’t changed too much… God knows what we’ll be wearing in 4 years time! 🙈
Great selection Naomi. My little man (also a Finn!) turns one shortly and we’ve bought the gorgeous M&S hoodies (excellent quality and such a bargain) since he was 3mths old, and just bought him an M&S jacket like the one you’ve shown and it’s so toasty and wipe-clean. Love H&M, M&S, Next and Gap baby/kids stuff without the giant logos are brilliant (a lot of non-gender-specific stripes, prints and colours which I love) and wash really well too. One of my fave buys is still a pair of grey leopard print joggers from H&M. He totally pulls them off!
I love H&M clothes, I think the quality is great, clothes go well together without being too matchy matchy and the prices are so reasonable – and there’s free delivery is you join the H&M club and free returns. It’s my go to for basic things like socks and vests but I’ve just bought my daughter these dungarees: https://m2.hm.com/m/en_gb/productpage.0645371001.html but they don’t quite fit yet…give it a week! I also got her the cream version of the bobble hat you posted, which I love and am a little jealous of.
My second favourite baby clothes shop is Newbie (newbiestore.com) which is fab quality for really reasonable prices. All of the clothes are in ‘collections’, which again makes it easier to buy things that go together.
I definitely get frustrated with the speed of growth, especially when clothes only get worn once. My daughter is only 3 months old (and I think we’re in the midst of a growth spurt right now!) but we’ve already passed on 2 bags of clothes and kept some aside for any future babies! I tried to create a vague capsule wardrobe so that outfit changes are easier because each pair of pants goes with several vests and there’s more chance of getting wear out of the clothes, but we received so many generous gifts of clothes that we had outfits that she only managed to wear once before they had to be retired 🙁
