Who knew Hugh was such a fashion icon? Perhaps wearing your silk robe out of the house is taking it a bit far but I’ve seen more than my fair share of folks donning pyjamas outside recently.
Since Clueless Cher’s nineties slip dress shimmied its way back on to the rails, I have seen a whole load of attire which wouldn’t look out of place between the sheets, find it’s way to the streets. After I seemed to ruin all my clothes last week I HAD to hit the shops to replace a few items and the pyjama trend was clear to see.
The Slip Dress
Last week I tried on Topshop’s spot slip dress which, let’s face it, could be mistaken for a nightie. I have to be honest it didn’t work for me and my hips but if you’re you’re more evenly proportioned then this could be a winner with a denim jacket and some converse. There aren’t many left online but there were loads in store. Similarly over at River Island this khaki slip with a lace hem isn’t too revealing if layered over a tee. Very 1990s.
If you’re not feeling the nightie look then ditch the lace and go for a simple cami dress. There are squillions of shoe string strapped dresses about in all sorts of lengths and patterns. If I could pull off a midi I’d be donning the pretty swirl print Warehouse one.

PJ Style
One thing I did purchase last week was a cute striped blouse from Zara. The heron print is whimsical and the elasticated hem prevents it from looking too much like I’m sleep-walking though I’m enjoying the playful nod to the pyjama style.
Speaking of PJ style blouses, it’s the piping, cuff detail, pockets and collar shape which really bring this look to life. Dorothy Perkin’s Palm Print Shirt is a chic alternative to a classic button-down. Our very own Lisa recently tried on the Topshop Soft Tailored Blazer and loved it I have to say. The pattern is beautiful and great for smart-casual.
There’s no escaping the Asos Colour Block Blouse looks like a PJ top. Heavens it’s satin but this piece oozes a bit of boudoir elegance. Blogger Salt and Chic wears hers loose with a tighter bottom and totally rocks it.
The ever stylish Belle and Bunty are also embracing the grandad stripe recently, so do check out their blog for two ways to style this look. These girlies definitely do not look like they just rolled out of bed.

Cami Vest
The lovely Charlotte is a big fan of the cami top and loves New Look’s lace trim numbers, a snip at £15.99. Meanwhile over at Oasis, they have a very pretty minty hued cami with gorgeous honolulu print and Asos have a cute selection featuring a cold shoulder so you can embrace two trends in one.

So who’s taking the boudoir look to the streets? What are you wearing and how are you wearing it?
It all looks very lovely… but i’m just not sure I could carry it off myself – I suspect I might get some funny looks doing the school run, or even worse one of those infamous letters from the headmaster asking me not to come to school in my pyjamas 😉
I reckon it might work on holidays better, where its all much more relaxed. Some lovely pieces here though.
Ha ha Nicola! So true – wouldn’t it be embarrassing to get a letter like that if you’d just gone out and bought a whole new trendy outfit! x
I would actually so wear so many of these beautiful pieces if I was skinnier. There’s literally no room to leave anything to the imagination. I’m a huge fan of the camisole tops though – they’ve seen me through this summer so far!
Yes, it’s all a bit slinky isn’t it? x
I love this look! Both the shirts (that Zara one in the top photo slideshow is particularly amazing!) and the lace trim camisole tops!
