When Mark Niemierko, founder of super-chic events and wedding planning company Niemierko invited us round to his central London apartment we were there quicker than you can say, “Mine’s an espresso martini.” Given his day job it’s hardly surprising that his home is as stylish as the parties he plans. He’s carefully considered every detail, masterfully mixing old, new, expensive and affordable to create a welcoming home that, as a guest, you never want to leave. Over to Mark…

“I moved into my apartment, in Fitzrovia, around a year ago, in early 2013. My first “proper” job at 17 was at a production company near Warren Street, and my company’s office has always been based in central Fitzrovia. I have a fondness for the area, central London, yet at weekends it’s very quiet. Unlike busy Soho, people don’t seem to venture north of Oxford Street. Now with Fitzrovia being my home as well as my office I’m exceptionally lucky to say I have a 90 second walk to work each morning.

I really wanted my home to be a social one, a place family, friends and my work team could come by for an afternoon tea or an espresso martini. This is my excuse for always having a stocked bar and plenty of ice! NOTE the fridge is also pretty much liquid only. I eat out a lot. The silver cocktail shaker and ice bucket are engraved with my initials and were a thank you gift from one of my brides and grooms. There are many gifts throughout my house from past clients – I’m super-spoilt and lucky in that respect.

I love mixing old, new, expensive and affordable. You’ll see frames from Linley and Ralph Lauren mixed with others from Habitat and Paperchase. It’s fun to mix things up.

Finding a TV unit was impossible. I don’t love the TV being a focal point of a room, slap in the centre. I had a carpenter build this super-simple bookshelf for me.

On a trip to Cliveden recently I spotted the book Her Majesty sitting on a coffee table in the Spring Cottage, I immediately pulled out my phone and ordered it through the very dangerous Amazon app. I think the book came before the Oka cushions – you’ll notice the cushions match the cover. There are several fashion and interiors coffee table books in my living room, although the majority of my collection is in my office, for easy reference for work projects.

The dining table is set with a rather large urn flower arrangement from Rob Van Helden. Perhaps a bit OTT but you can never have enough flowers right? Even if you can’t eat your meal. Anyhow, I got these urns from the Covent Garden flower market on one of my many trips there with Rob. I love a touch of gold – over the last couple of years I’ve seen my couples allow it back onto their table settings. I think done in the right quantities gold can look perfectly in place. The placecards are by my dear friend Fin Fellowes.

Before weddings and events I worked in film and TV from a Junior through to PR and Marketing roles. Morvern Callar was one film I worked on. This wasn’t the official poster – it was made up purely for the Cannes Film Festival. Myself, the producers and the director are the only people to have copies.

I’m a huge fan of not running out of anything. The office stationery cupboard is always stocked with spares. I treat my bathroom cabinet like a stationery cupboard. I love Penhaligon’s bath and shower gels, there’s something traditional English gent about them. Hendricks teacups are the perfect place for cotton buds!

It’s super-important that where you sleep is relaxing, but equally as important is how you lay out your clothes, to start each day. Getting dressed you need to see your clothes and accessories so you can easily decide on what to wear. My tie collection is colour-coded. Same with bowties, belts, cufflinks, watches and shoes. My wardrobe is lined up in three sections. First shirts, then suits and, finally, coats. I wear a total mixture of brands. Most of my shirts are from Thomas Pink. Suits are from Reiss, J. Crew, Spencer Hart and Ralph Lauren. Love Tom Ford for shoes, along with Prada. I don’t mind buying an affordable shirt or suit, but my shoes always have to be from a well-made brand. They’ll last forever if looked after right.

I believe in finding a scent and sticking to it. I’ve worn Terre d’Hermès for a number of years now. I’ve flirted with a couple of others, but always come back to Terre.

I try not to work from home, but I do have a small desk for notes and my iPad.

The Playboy bunnies picture above my bed is fun and cheeky. I saw it on an interior designer’s website, found the poster online, ordered it and had it framed.

I’m going to be judged for the framed list at my front door. But so be it… The times I’ve left without something and had to go back. I did remember something else I needed to add to the list the other day: BLOW OUT THE DIPTYQUES!”
