Today’s post title is a bit of a tongue twister admittedly, but I couldn’t think of a heading that was better fitted to my sartorial ramblings than this one (obviously I’m sure you lot have a mountain of much more creative ideas…answers on a postcard please).
If you read my post on the five things I’m looking forward to most this month then you’ll already know that it is my birthday next week and to celebrate we’ll be popping to the Cotswolds for a family getaway. I’m keeping all my fingers crossed that the weather will be a darn sight warmer than it has been these last few days…if only because it means I can wear my new party frock from Topshop…(a girl has got to buy a new dress for her birthday right?) to celebrate.
Which brings me not the subject of today’s post. Because it seems that nearly all of my purchases of 2017 (excluding anything house related of course) have been of the spotty variety. Yep that’s my party dress in the header image there..complete with a smattering of stars too. I’m not sure why there’s been this sudden obsession with full-on polka dots…I mean it’s not even been a conscious thing and I’ve never really been a fan before. That said there’s something so Kate Spade about them that it’s hard to resist; in short, they’re fun and chic to boot.
So in the spirit that sharing is caring, I’ve decided to share those finds I’ve already purchased and those I’m seriously considering adding to my shopping basket. Hopefully you’ll be able to share anything else you might have spotted (sorry couldn’t resist!) on your travels too.
Topshop
Ok so Topshop’s polka dot game is strong. Apart from the the aforementioned party dress complete with the prettiest of ruffled detailing on the shoulders and fluted sleeves. The favourite part of it for me has to be its mini cut style (excellent for those on the short side like myself!) and I’ll be teaming it with tights and black ankle boots to add a bit of edginess to the look.
I’ve also fallen in love with this funnel neck blouse by the brand which has sold out online (sob!) but I know that there’s stock in store so I’m hoping to nab one in my size on my next visit to town. The jacquard blouse is ticking all my sartorial boxes; from the rouleau tie detailing at the back of the neck and along the arm cuffs. It’s swishy, it’s sexy, and just look at those utterly impractical sleeves (which makes me want it even more!) I particularly love how Topshop have paired it with a pair of high waisted black jeans…I probably need them too.
Boden
It was actually Boden that kickstarted my dotty delirium with their vintage blue toned spotty silk shirt. I’ve purchased Boden’s silk shirts before (always with a discount voucher by the way!) and have always been impressed with the quality of their products. I like the oversized design of this blouse as well as the double pockets. But most of all I like the pop of the pillar box red/orange spots against the blue. Dreamy!
Also from the brand there’s this glitter dotty sweatshirt which I’ve told Ste I need so I can look half decent taking Hector to the park in. I mean glitter will make anyone look good (and I’m hoping this includes me with those crescent moon shaped bags under my eyes). Plus it’s machine washable so it means I can bung it in the washing machine when I inevitably get smeared with mud from Hector’s shoes as he tries to scramble up me for the forty fifth time!
John Lewis
Pyjamas. Because I know how much you lovely lot adore a decent set of sleepwear. John Lewis, as ever, comes to the rescue with their ‘Carrie’ design made from 100% navy cotton. This is a classic button through pyjama shirt set detailed with a woven spot design throughout and finished with a smart white trim to the cuffs, neckline and pocket.
Jigsaw also have an amazing mocca hued set in the sale (still with availability in all sizes by the way!) priced at a very respectable £24.
H&M
And lastly H&M, where I found that animal print bowl in the header image has tonnes of spotty designs on their rails at the moment. My favourite? This off-white long-sleeved blouse complete with collar and concealed buttons down the front and a rounded hem that is slightly longer at the back. Perfect for that office to bar transition.
And that brings me to the end of today’s roundup. Have any of you seen some amazing polka dots that I simply need to know about? I’m wondering if Hector and I wearing matching spots is a step too far….you need to tell me if it is!
Arghh I wanted that Topshop star dress for my birthday a last week but couldn’t find it in my size…….I thought I had moved on from it but you have fueled the want again… !!
Oooops sorry Jane! If it helps it’s even nicer in the flesh than it appears on screen…actually that’s probably not helping at all is it!
Lolly I have this dress too! I love it 🙂 We should totes be twins at our next team meeting.
Jane if it helps I find Topshop sizing really odd – I bought a size 10 tall which fits perfectly and that’s not my normal size! x
Totes Fern! Yep mine is a size 10 too!
I’m very tempted to get this for my birthday at the end of March

Now that is really rather lovely Siobhan! Desperately trying not to look at all the amazing new things in Zara but I have have succumbed to a ‘bonjour’ sweatshirt for Hector. Oops!
Oh that sweatshirt….I clearly need it too. I got 2 stripes Longsleeve Tshirts last year with glitter polka dots on them from Boden and adore them….
You abso-blimming-lutely need the sweatshirt Vicky…if only to go with your long-sleeved t-shirts. Everyone needs a bit of matchy matchy in their loves 😉
ha!! I’ve just ordered the sweatshirt!!

I bloody love it when our readers do a bit of dirty enabling right back Vicky…might have to go and check them out now!
I am so pleased it is a shopping post today Lolly, it’s one of those Monday’s and that has made me feel a bit cheerier 🙂 Loving the Boden jumper and the H&M shirt! Lovely suggestions.
Oh no Nicola…what’s going on for you? I’m glad I’ve managed to brighten up your Monday for you though…
Yay – dirty enabling. In love with the boden sweater!
I’m 5’7 – is that topshop dress going to be indecently short on me? I fear of might be, but it’s so pretty.
Mel I reckon it will be fine. Worth at least trying it on wouldn’t you say….
Too pretty Lolly. And Lyra and I often go matchy matchy! x
Right if you two do then there’s no reason why Heccy and I can’t go matchy matchy too 😉
oh wow, I love the sweatshirt, was hoping for a Large to hide the pregnant bump but they’ve sold out online…a trip to Hangar Lane this weekend perhaps?x
I love a polka dot! I went to East Midlands outlet village this week and bought some polka dot tailored trousers from gap with change from a fiver! Sadly doesn’t seem to be on their website any more but if you have a gap outlet near you they probably still have them in the rails…
Oh how I wish the h&m blouse was in something other than polyester. I love the teeny random dots and the cute collar.
Wahey! Since lunchtime they have restocked, my navy spotty sweatshirt is now en route, thanks for the tip off!
