I have a girl crush on Morgane. 1) She’s French 2) She has THE chicest style ever 3) Her hair is amazing. Like L’Oreal advertisement amazing.
I was initially made aware of Morgane because she is one half of photography duo www.mandjphotos.com with her boyfriend Jonny, we’ve worked with Jonny on a shoot in the past for Rock My Wedding and the man has serious camera skills.
I now follow/stalk (!) Morgane on instagram and am always inspired by her outfits, simple yet unique, sophisticated yet undeniably cool. I’ve always wondered how she puts pieces together and where she shops…so I asked. I was pleasantly surprised to find her wardrobe is full of many affordable items from the high street and that a couple of timeless accessories can make all the difference.
Oh and did I mention her hair?
Morgane has kindly offered to share some of her styling tips and fashion advice with Rock My Style, please do feel free to ask Morgane any questions and if you have a spare minute leave a note in the comments box, it’s so useful for us to receive feedback and both Jonny and Morgane put so much time and effort into creating the feature it’s lovely to know it’s appreciated.
I’m Morgane Lay and I’m thrilled to share with you today a few of my everyday outfits.
First, a little introduction… I was born and grew up in Biarritz, a small town right at the tip of the South West coast of France where only the beach, surf and food matter! I left my hometown after high school to study law, but was always convinced that a more creative path would suit me better. While studying, I developed more and more of an interest into photography and actually started to make a modest living from it. But I was still worried that it might not lead to a financially secure situation. But after I finished my masters I became confident enough in myself to eventually get over this fear so decided to move to London to start a photography business. Absolutely no regret today! I realised that when it comes to a career, there’s nothing more important than finding something that you love. I once read “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life”. That’s exactly how I feel today!
I guess like a lot of girls, I’ve always been interested in fashion, but moving to London and working in photography has meant this interest has grown, as has the temptation to buy new additions to my wardrobe every week! When it comes to my own personal style, all I know is that I like to keep things simple, usually concentrating on one key piece and finding everyday basics to go with it. This allows me to keep the overall costs down whilst still managing to get refreshing looks. Having said that, I’m definitely a sucker for shoes and sunglasses, which I often wear to add something a little punchy to the look.

So black is obviously my favourite colour. If I could, I’d wear black everyday. You just can’t go wrong! I was looking for a long coat and had my eyes on a French Connection trench for a while, but wasn’t planning on spending too much on what is essentially a thin jacket for Autumn. So I was really pleased when I found this one at Monki for only £60! The shoes are one of my favourites that I’ve bought this season and help make the whole look a little more chic.
Shoes: & Other Stories
Sunglasses: Celine
Jeans: Topshop
Dress: Topshop
Coat: Monki
Bracelet: HermèsLook 2
Getting your legs out in London in November is daring, but I had this cosy woolen coat from Topshop to keep me warm(ish). I could wear the River Island knitted jumper with all my outfits, as the length is just perfect. It even works as a little winter dress.
Shoes: H by Hudson
Jumper: River Island
Coat: Topshop
Sunglasses: Miu Miu
Rings: Bimba y LolaLook 3
This is my comfy everyday outfit to throw on when I can’t be bothered to think too much about what to wear. I’m still very attached to my hometown so this jumper is an homage to my happy place and favourite beach in the world (Côte des Basques) where my whole life I’ve hung out with my friends everyday in summer. It feels great to represent this little corner of the world on the streets of London.

Adore the Mui Mui glasses Morgane and I have serious hair envy x
Great post and the photos are great! I am in love with those sunglasses.
The wrong place to post (although Chanel is French!)…
Charlotte, I don’t how I ever lived (or will when this one runs outs) without that Chanel eyeliner Or Blanc….
ps – love the style of the photos on this post.
Hi Victoria! Thanks for your feedback. The eyeliner is amazing isn’t it? I bought one for Miranda for her birthday last week! x
My kind of article. Fashionable and achievable.
Thanks!
Love this style…chic is definitely the word. I would REALLY like to know her hair secrets. I reckon my hair is about 2/3rds of this length now and I really love having it long but within about of an hour of me leaving the house it is just all knotty and not all shiny and swishy and healthy looking like this. Do I have to be French for it to look like this or can my English hair ever hope to be as pretty?
I would love to hear hair secrets, I would love hair this long and glossy. And how do French women have this innate way with their beauty/ hair that makes them look polished but not ‘done’. Secrets please!
Hi girls! Thank you for your sweet words! No real secrets i’m afraid! I avoid hair color/bleaching, hair curlers I think that’s the most important thing. I also wash my hair everyday and put 3 drops of clary sage and cypress essential oils in my shampoo once it’s in my hand palm (for the shininess) and let my hair dry naturally without using a hairdryer. I do hair mask every 2/3 days and use serum/cream everyday. My favourite products : bumble & bumble thickening shampoo and invisible oil, Leonor Greyl shampoing au miel, Carita daily cream, Dove nourishing dry ends serum and Bumble & bumble pret a powder when my hair is flat. Voilaaaaa! Hope that will help 🙂
It goes without saying how much of a crush i have on this girl too!!! Hi beautiful 🙂
