I am LOVING Autumn. I consider myself a lover of all seasons (and weather). I get excited by these blustery days. The feeling of staying in all day or arriving home soaked from the school run to the warmth of my own home. I am fickle though and it’s the novelty of the transition in seasons that makes me excited. After a month or two, I’m willing on the next change.
All About The Bath
One thing I can never get enough of in the colder months though is a good, deep, hot, bath. There’s something about immersing in hot water either in the dark (anyone else do that?) or with low lighting and a good book that gives me all the cosy feels. I also happen to think that there is no time-luxury quite like a random afternoon bath. But that’s perhaps because I have two small children and any lingering solo moment during the day is considered a luxury.
A bath was close to the top of my list when we bought our house and it’s always a deciding factor in any hotel we stay in. A fancy bath will always trump a fancy bed. In fact, my treat to myself for my 30th birthday was a 4 hour long pamper session in a remote Balinese spa, complete with an outdoor flower petal bath. There’s definitely a photo of that on my Instagram if you fancy torturing yourself with jealousy. I look back on it and torture myself regularly. Needless to say, baths are important to me.
As are my choice of bath products. If I’m going to go to the hassle of cleaning the flippin’ thing (something I only ever seem to remember to do right before I run a bath), and if I’m going to wait on the water to fill and find the perfect temperature that will allow me a long soak but not boil my organs, then I want to use a fancy product. Radox just doesn’t cut the mustard for me anymore. Sorry Radox.
Bath Oils
If you haven’t bathed in Aromatherapy Associates, immediately get one of their oils on your Christmas wish list. My favourite one is the Inner Strength Bath and Shower Oil. It’s pretty much like bathing in the scent of a very sexy man. Which is, of course, my favourite way to bathe. The Deep Relax Bath and Shower Oil is also divine and a less heady, fresher option is the Open Space scent. Yes, they are spendy, but you do get about 20-ish baths from one bottle, which makes their cost per soak way lower than a Lush Bath Bomb. I like rubbing the oil directly onto my body then stepping into the bath for super soft skin and a scent that will linger in both your bathroom and your bedsheets.
I also have my sights set on purchasing Ren’s Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil after smelling it in Space NK. Rose scented products get me every time.
Bath Salts
Honestly, I struggle to buy into fancy bath salts as I just don’t feel like offer anything different and the scent tends to disappear with the bath water. Cost per use is usually rather high. I prefer to buy a super cheap bag of Epsom Salts and add in 5-6 drops of my favourite essential oils. I’m currently into a blend of Lavender, Rosemary & Patchouli. It’s woody and wintery and cheap as chips. If you’re looking for something luxe for yourself or as a beautiful gift for a friend, I do rate the Herbivore Bath Salts range, the scents are gorgeous and one bottle does about 4 baths. Lauren did a post about the benefits of Epsom Salts which you can find in the RMS archives.
Bath Soaks & Bubbles
Two words… Liquid Yoga. This bath soak by Mio will make your bathroom feel like a ‘spensive spa. It has a host of beneficial ingredients like arnica, vitamin A, antioxidants and magnesium. I like to use this when I feel anxious because, for me, a bath of this stuff guarantees to make my frayed nerves feel soothed and relaxed afterwards. Scent wise, it’s definitely unique, with a fresh but menthol like aroma that lingers in the room for ages after.
A great bubbly option (especially after a workout, combined with a cup of Epsom Salts) is Neal’s Yard Remedies Organic Seaweed and Arnica Foaming Bath. It has a very refreshing lemon-y, pine-y scent so tends to make me feel quite clean and uplifted.
So there you go, a peek into my all-time favourite bath products. I know this a very personal subject, but please let me have a peek into your bathroom cabinets and share your favourite budget and luxe soaking options? I’m always on the hunt for a nice bathtime treat. I’m also seriously considering buying myself a bath bridge… Do you use one? Are they worth it?

REN’s rose otto is my go to bath oil but I’m lusting after some lavender bath salts and fig bath foam from Plum & Ashby. Their Samphire and Seaweed hand and body wash smells gorgeous.
Oh I don’t know of this range! Must check it out. There’s a Scottish company who do samphire & seaweed hand wash (their name escapes me now) and it smells so fresh!
My absolute favs – and this is a reminder i need to order some more – is WidEye bath products – they are utterly divine – I have tried their bath bombs and butter cups and all are scrumptious – your skin feels sooooo soft and your bathroom smells divine! I still have the paper wrapping from a bath bomb that i have kept in my bathroom cupboard because 6months on it still smells yummy!! Also on the side of my bath is Liquid Yoga and MomuSpa warming ginger bath oil (which is as lush as it sounds) 🙂
Now off to stalk Wideye & MomuSpa! Warming ginger bath oil sounds incredible 😍
I’d agree with the comment above Plum and Ashby products are lovely. My all time favourites though are jo Malone bath oils, not cheap but the smell! My whole house is filled with the scent. Pomegranate Noir is a gorgeous one for winter too
I love the pomegranate noir perfume but have never tried the bath oils! I guess you are getting double duty, bath oil and home fragrance 😉
Try the bath oil it’s amazing!
I wish i was one of those people who loves a bath but i just find myself bored and no tub i ever owned is deep enough for me to be fully immersed (floating cold boob situation here!) But my husband is the opposite and i bought him that exact bath shelf and he loves it, he can spend an entire afternoon with his tablet or book and bottle of fizzy juice (the Scottish man’s luxury!)
Rachel we had a Japanese Plunge Bath in Australia and I loved it so much I’m tempted to install one here. Its like a shorter but deeper bath so you sit upright and the water comes up over your shoulders. It’s magnificent. 😍
I love that style, we tried to find a way to install one in our last flat, it would have just fitted in the room…but not through the door! Was so dissapointed! We have a bigger bathroom now but the space is quite awkward for both a bath and shower plus our funds are limited for a good few years…one day i will get a good big tub!
I love a bath. I’m not too concerned about depth, in fact I have them really shallow but I like to have them super hot, hence the reason I haven’t been able to have one over the last nine months.
I have the Neal’s Yard Arnica one you mention Naomi and I don’t know if it’s a placebo effect but it really makes me go from feeling exhausted to pleasantly tired (the way you feel after a really long walk). Not long to go until I can get it out of the cupboard! x
I still remember my first hot baths after both my babies Lauren. It’s a total occasion 😂. I ran out of my Neals Yard bubbles, but this makes me want to repurchase. I find it very restorative but relaxing too! xo
Lauren, your first bath will be absolute bliss!!
My baby is 4 months old now and I had my first post-baby bath last week 😍 I’m also a hot bath fan, I spent a wonderful hour soaking and steaming and loofahing.
I actually used Johnson’s bedtime baby bath – it bubbles up nicely, smells pretty good and it’s a bargain!
Thanks for the inspiration! Now I really long for the next proper bath. I tend to take showers at the moment with two little ones “running” around. (tiny one is 7 months old, so no running yet;) )
I love a good bath, though with two tots in the house who always need their mummy, they don’t happen as often as I’d like. I love the Jo Malone and Aromatherapy Associates bath oils, and Lush do a nice bath melt called Ceridwen’s Cauldron. I’m also a fan of an Epsom Salts/essential oils bath. Lavender and Clary Sage are my current choices.
Loving these recommendations but I fear WidEye is going to bankrupt me – I need all the butter cups and face oil and shower gel!
And I always bathe in the dark – so much more relaxing. x
