I think it was Amal Clooney that started it – resplendent in a mustard yellow dress at Meghan & Harry’s wedding. Then more recently Kate Middleton, aka The Duchess of Cambridge, wearing a gorgeous sunshine shade frock to Wimbledon. Not to mention our very own Insta high street fashion Queen Holly Willoughby in a bright lemon ruffle Whistles number whilst presenting This Morning.
Love it or loathe it, yellow is BIG news right now and it’s just so summery and happy. If you’ve always shied away with the fear of resembling a slightly odd shaped banana (happens) then I’ve picked out several considered pieces for you and I promise there is a hue to suit every skin tone. Personally I’m a fan of sherbet – it really compliments my pale (currently slightly bronzer enhanced) epidermis and ash blonde barnet combo.
The Best Yellow Dresses To Wear To A Wedding
Or a party. Or a BBQ. Or an outdoor cinema trip (We have booked to see Top Gun at our local National Trust this Friday, SO excited!).
Over on Rock My Wedding we are doing our best to officially bring yellow back for bridesmaids – much like we did with peach way back when in 2010. But if you are not signed up to be Maid of Honour anytime soon, then it’s still our number one choice for guests too.
I’m loving the lemon crochet over-the-knee and with bardot neckline dress from Paper Dolls at ASOS, £60, and the slightly lampshade-esque lace gown from Warehouse.
For a more casual vibe Topshop’s Broderie Maxi dress and striped shirt dress are both under fifty quid.
My most expensive find is a floral floaty full length frock from LoveShackFancy at Net-A-Porter. It’s part little-house-on-the-prairie part sexy milk maid but I think it’s ace. Definitely an investment buy. And on the subject of spendy yet excellent value, you can buy Valentino for under £300 at The Outnet – my most visited online shopping destination of all for designer bargains. This buttercup Woven-trimmed basket weave dress is my most favourite of all. Apologies in advance if they have already sold out by the time you read this feature.
If you don’t want a dress but still want a splash of sunshine….
Then how about this cute polka dot tie neck shirt from Boden? or a pair of less-than-half-price Jimmy Choo sandals?. I’m also a fan of the bohemian Maxi skirt from Hush. Last but not least I need to talk about yellow cropped trousers. No, I never would have considered these either but I follow @sunshinesamblog and she looked AMAZING in a mustard pair. I have found a similar high-waisted design for £17.99 at New Look. You’re welcome.
Have you invested in anything yellow recently? Do feel free to dirty enable in the comments box below along with links to things we all all probably need to buy.
Love yellow, but can’t wear it near my face – makes me look awful 🙁 (am pale with pink undertones and hair that is a mix of blond, red tones and brown)
I stick to accessories – mainly yellow bags (yellow leopard print Hill & Friends mini cross body from last year), shoes and jewellery (have a canary yellow sapphire in my engagement ring). Current love – bright yellow Nike trainers – which are also excellent as they come in a very wide range of sizes, I’m and 8.5 and they fit perfectly! – see:

Caroline these are amazing!!!!!! Have you tired a very pale sherbet lemon? it’s the best yellow for me x
Love mustard! Recently purchased a lovely wrap dress from Debenhams, it was Nine by Savannah Miller. Such a lovely line with a vintage feel. Don’t think it’s available online anymore but can see it went down to £17 in the sale – luckily I persuaded my husband to buy for me as an extra birthday present

Esme this is lush, and what a ruddy bargain?! I don’t suit mustard at all but love it on others x
Unfortunately I didn’t get it in sale, but it was a present so I don’t feel too sad!
I am loving a bit of yellow at the moment. I bought the yellow three section leather cross body bag from Oliver Bonas that was on the RMS yellow feature from Spring.
Recently I bought a lovely enamel jewellery set from Iamrachel shop on Etsy/Instagram/Facebook. She is a local mum in Somerset and rather unbelievably, I then saw my sister-in-law modeling some of the earrings on her Etsy page. What a small world! Turns out their are village mumtrepreneur friends! Love a shout out for a small producer and her enamel jewellery is gorgeous so do check her out. I have the mini white dot earrings and a white with smaller yellow dot necklace.
Yay! That was also my feature I think Bunny (!) clearly obsessed with yellow. I’ll have a look at this shop – sounds lovely x
I’ve been jumping on the yellow wagon too. Bought this TShirt from New Look and I swear it makes me look more tanned and healthier – worn with jeans and denim skirt. Washed and worn about 4 times already in a couple of weeks, lol! The shop assistant in All Saints complimented me on it so must be a winner right?!!? 😉 Nothing fancy but I like!

Ooh I bought this one for my summer holidays too! Had lots of wear 🙂
Well this is gorgeous, and what a bargain too. Not that long ago I had a very confusing moment in an All Saints store – it turned out a lady was asking me about an item of clothing as she thought I worked there (!) I took it as a massive compliment that I would look young/hip enough to do so 😉
x
Nikki I have this in the dusky pink shade and really love the mustard! Such a comfortable and flattering top! x
My problem is that i own too much yellow and i really need to remember to buy other colours to complement it. I have more than once rushed out of the house wearing my yellow wool coat and grabbing my huge yellow satchel that i use for work meetings and end up looking a bit mad..im also eyeing up those nike trainers that the first comment linked to, and keep thinking about a yellow/mustard backpack! Yesterday i found myself eyeing up a 2nd hand yellow buggy for my impending arrival…i fear i am becoming a real life little miss sunshine :-/
I have the uppa baby vista pram in a bright yellow and my boy (now 2) always gets compliments on his sunny ride. Best baby purchase (I knew he was a boy and didn’t care, because I personally loved (and still do) that yellow pram!)
That was the one i was looking at! I hadn’t seen it in that colour- its so lovely- we may end up with it in red as have seen a red one at a bargain price and not in a position to be fussy when 2nd hand and cheap!haha. I am expecting a boy too but i’m more swayed towards bright, and typically feminine, colours for most things, i figure when he’s old enough he can make up his own mind on colour preference, but for now, I’ll fill his world with bright things that i think will make him smile!
I also have the uppababy vista in yellow and love it! We have 2 boys and get compliments on it all the time. Love the red too! And it has the best shopping basket ever!
Glad to hear some good reviews for it- buggy shopping is hard- too much choice!

I just bought this to wear to a wedding on Saturday. The sunny yellow colour makes me happy, I can’t wait to wear it 😃 https://www.riverisland.com/p/yellow-frill-tie-waist-midi-dress-718174?sem=1&cmpid=PLA&istCompanyId=28d3cba5-6749-43eb-904c-61b8cc01cf80&istItemId=-xppiaaqlml&istBid=tzti&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIn7Kx1Je43AIVT7HtCh0qPAcBEAQYASABEgLt-_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
I’m loving yellow right now, and actually hadn’t realised how much I’d bought this year until this post!🙈 It also makes even a slight tan look totally bronzed, winner! 💛
I love this t shirt by Sugarhill Brighton https://www.sugarhillbrighton.com/clothing-c1/tops-t-shirts-c3/sugarhill-brighton-mimi-you-are-my-sunshine-t-shirt-p550#attribute%5B2%5D=162
And this jumper by Joules is a lovely shape, feels a wee bit smarter than your average hoody, I had to size up but I love how long the sleeves are. Unfortunately the yellow is sold out but there are some other nice patterns https://www.joules.com/Women/New-In/Marlston-Print/Hooded-Sweatshirt/Navy-Yellow-Rose?id=Y_MARLSTONPRINT|NVYLROS
Love this post as I am mad for yellow and anything spotty at the moment ! Can’t stop buying LoveShackFancy stuff (damn the inport tax) and also check out Free People, as I picked up a couple of amazing yellow dresses, which were not crazy expensive in the sale and I wear all the time as they’re so casual and lose, perfect for holidays and out amazing uk summer! Enjoy date night x
