I toyed with naming this post Kids Transitional Fashion… Because let’s face it, the threat of snow won’t really leave us until June. And even then who knows?!
We’re most likely going to experience several seasons over the next few months and dressing our littlies is going to be a bit of a challenge.
So I’ve rounded up my favourite finds this season that will keep our kiddos warm and dry but in hues that celebrate the much-anticipated changing of seasons and the longer, brighter nights (has anyone else found themselves gazing out the window at the 8pm pink twilight sky longing for the temperature to match the glorious sunset?).
Much to my dismay, a vast majority of the websites I visited forced me to choose between boy and girl before browsing, but I’m going to lump them all together here because I found quite a few pieces that could be sported by any child, despite the shop’s gender labelling.
Browser tabs at the ready? There’s a lot of links in this post!
Short Sleeves
Let’s begin with a bit of optimism. We are bound to have a smattering of sunshiney days and even in their absence… There’s always layering. Zara kids has some beauties in stock this season with my favourites from the range being this striped number that reminds me of That 70’s Show (in a good way), this bright and cheery ‘today’ print t-shirt and this pretty polka dot piece with a bow detail at the front (which comes in heaps of colours). I also loved the front knot detailing on this Gap t-shirt (which also comes in heaps of colours). This Gap embroidered grey dress would be perfect with either summer sandals or pale tights and boots. Has anyone else noticed that Gap are throwing around discount codes like confetti these days? Not that I’m complaining. I do also like trawling some non-high street brands too and found this slim-fitting t-shirt from amazing (new to me and very well priced) Swedish brand Newbie and this ultra-soft organic cotton striped t-shirt from Polarn O. Pyret.
Long Sleeves
Being a shade more realistic, let’s round up some long sleeved options that can look fabulously bright, but keep the kidlets comfortable in the fluctuating climes. First up is this mermaid Breton from Boden. That’s right… Mermaid Breton. I also fell in love with this heart pocket striped jersey dress and although only displayed in the girls section, I would happily have my little boy sporting the ‘Hello Sunshine’ jumper. Joules was my favourite for girly long sleeves like this spotty hoody, this achingly adorable strawberry top and this signature Joules floral print. H&M won it for the boy’s section (though I think a little girl could rock any of these), this jumper follows Lisa’s fave rainbow trend, the candy colours of this fine cable knit make a nice change from deeper winter hues and I do love a grandad shirt for Spring/Summer. My new favourite, Newbie also nailed it with this pocket detail long sleeve that subtly states “In Nature We Trust” and this frill detail blush pink jumper. Finally, I want to give a shout out to a Glasgow made heart polka dot long sleeve from quirky Scottish brand Shapes of Things.
Jackets
On to outerwear and I am definitely purchasing this hooded jersey/denim jacket from H&M, it would be perfect for either sex in my opinion. This Spring appropriate lamb hoodie from Boden would be super sweet on little tots. Zara are killing it with this trench, this perfect peach parka and this very cool crossover fisherman’s raincoat. The queens of rainwear (albeit a little more spendy) are Joules, their wellies are superbly comfortable and fancy, and the signature floral print really summers up this raincoat. If you’re into the transparent raincoat trend then this glitter mac is really rather special and if you’re looking for something longer and with M&S Stormwear, this teal fisherman’s style is great. Ethan has a Stormwear jacket from M&S and it’s fantastic. It’s been through the wars and still looks (almost) new.
Jeans & Accessories
To be honest, for me, jeans are mostly jeans. We all have our preferred styles but they tend to transition from season to season pretty well. I love the M&S cotton rich jogger jeans, they always come in a bunch of styles/colours and Ethan has several pairs. I like the relaxed fit and they look smart whilst also being comfy to play in. In the girl’s section, I spied these indigo skinnies and just loved the colour of them. Gap also have floral print jeans if you’re looking for something a bit more statement Spring. A couple of littlies footwear faves worth mentioning (although that could be a post of its own!) are these mustard ‘have fun’ plimsoles and these gorgeous blush pink wellies. This Zara backpack would make a very cool but practical accessory and just for fun, I thought I’d throw in a pom pom tassel fedora. Maybe because I want one for myself.
So that’s it. I’ve harped on long enough.
What’s your favourite Spring-like but practical piece in the shops at the moment?
I’m loving the look of Newbie, I’d never heard of them before but they have some fabulous things 😍
I only happened upon them too. Such a good price point and I love their overall style. Glad I could share my find 🙂
Is this site merging with Rock my Family? There seems to be more and more kid related posts at the moment….? Shame if it is x
Hi Louise,
We mentioned it in several posts that Mondays and Wednesday afternoons are now family content. All morning features stays the same as the traditional Rock My Style content so you still get five lifestyle posts a week, but two bonus family posts a week too.

Thought you might be a fan Lisa ☺️
Went to buy the hello sunshine jumper and it doesn’t come small enough. *cries a little bit*.
