I’ll hold my hands up and say I’ve hated my capsule wardrobe this summer. Everything has been weather inappropriate, non-washing machine friendly or too short. My vision of an easy, breezy casual summer wardrobe never came to fruition, however two lovely ladies who have it nailed are our very own Fern (Editor of Rock My Wedding) and Lottie (of Rock My Family fame). I defy you not to buy Fern’s shoes as they are utterly fabulous.
Lottie
The majority of my days are spent in comfy mum attire of jeans and a t-shirt but just occasionally I need something a bit, well, smarter. It may be for work or for that rare catch up with the girls but it still needs to be kiddy friendly for when I get home. I’ve been on the hunt for a denim skirt for a while and this A-line one was a bargain in the Boden sale. It’s still available so be quick. When Mrs O’Shea sent me an email stating that I needed this soft grey silk mix top I knew I had to make a purchase. It really is very lovely and looks great with a spot of denim. The V neck is super flattering and the best part is I can chuck it in the washing machine. My tootsies have spent the majority of this summer in my new favourite Saltwater sandals. They were the best buy ever. Super dooper comfy and if I get caught in a sudden English downpour it’s fine as they are waterproof. I’m very tempted to purchase another colour……

This is me fully embracing the warmer weather and the fact that I was childfree for the day! Oasis have definitely upped their game of late, and I love how easy this ditzy print bardot top is to wear. I’ve worn it out to dinner with jeans and heels, but also with shorts and flip flops to the beach. It’s fast becoming my top of the summer.
The shoes were impossible to resist as I love wearing coral tones when I’ve got a bit of colour to my skin and these jingle as you walk which makes me smile. They are comfortable to wear too (I had to run for a train in them so can vouch for that) and I think they’d look lovely with a simple white sun dress for holiday drinks.
What threads do you favour for the smart-casual look? Any new attire you’d love to tell us all about?

What a great idea…, actually seeing the items on Fern and Lottie makes you see how outfits that you wouldn’t have considered before work. I say great idea but now of course I have had to buy some of the items! The coral shoes are so gorgeous 🙂
Gosh darn it with those jingle coral shoes, you naughty girl! I’m setting up my own business so I haven’t got any money, but I’m going to have to go onto ASOS now, aren’t I?
They are a bargain Denise! Buy them 😉
I’ve had those Saltwater sandals for a few months now and they are so so so comfortable. I wish they’d been in my life sooner! Even with my heat swollen feet they trudged me up and down the Las Vegas strip last week with no sign of a rub or blister anywhere! Actually in love and thinking of getting another colour too, but Al will probably kill me so might have to wait until next summer! X
They are the best Kitty. How did we live without them for so long? I’m debating between yellow or red. Cost per wear they’ve got to be worth it. xxx
I recently brought the Boden A-line denim skirt and absolutely loved it – that was until I has to deal with Miss 2 year olds tantrum in the middle of Boots. Poppers all the way down the front are not the best idea when struggling to carry an all screaming, all kicking small child! The last 3 held thank goodness or I would have been stood there in my pants!
This did make me laugh Megan! I’ve got a jumper with a zip that goes nearly all the way down the back which my 2 year old tries to unzip every time I wear it! x
Ha ha ha. That made me chuckle Megan. Yes, they are a bit poppery! xx
Awwww I LOVE those coral flats but for some reason that style of flat look awful on my feet!!! They just make my feet look exceptionally wide (and they are only a size 4!)
Also LOVE Fern’s top so may have to make a cheeky trip to Oasis! x
Yay Rebecca!!! It’s a lovely top, very easy to wear x
I also bought the top 🙂
And the playsuit…….. xx
I’ve got the same Saltwater sandals, they are amazingly comfortable. I now want to buy them in lots of different colours though!
Do it Alex! x
Both you ladies looked gorgeous. I’ve got to admit, I completed copied Fern and bought the Oasis top. And I might have also bought the playsuit in the matching ditsy print…
There’s a playsuit?! Clearly need this too…
Lisa….I may also have done the same. Sorry Fern…we are all such copy cats xx
I now also want to copy…… x
I need that top too!! Looking lovely ladies! x
Those shoes have been BOUGHT!!!!
A bargain I couldn’t resist……
Yep just got the yellow version of the sandals
I’m so tempted by the yellow. May have to make a purchase. x
Lovely choices Fern and Lottie, you both look amazing and the colours really suit you! Agree with Nicola that it’s really helpful to see clothes on rather than just on the shop website where they might have been pinned into the perfect position!! ?
Thanks Laura, we hope to do more of this format moving forward x
Thanks Laura! Definitely no pins involved here 🙂
I bought some nice pieces in the current sale. All a total bargain. A nice flowery Cami top and a fake black, A-line leather skirt, with pockets from Oasis (I love Oasis. I think I also have to buy the ditsy flower top, Fern got). A Shirt Dress from Warehouse and a Oasis dress (both in the asos sale). I felt, I needed some new things, I can wear to work. Especially the Shirt Dress is really great for work. At Mango I couldn’t resist and I had to buy TWO leather jackets. One was full price, but the other only 25 pounds (for genuine leather) in the sale. I had to have it 🙂
£25! For real leather?! Excellent purchase Mia 😉
I love my saltwaters…I have gold but can feel tan and yellow coming into my life!!
I’ve lost 2 stone this summer so most of my summer clothes are hanging off me but I’m reluctant to buy new stuff now and only get a few weeks wear out of it…but roll on Autumn and a massive shopping binge!! Summer has never been my favourite time clothes wise and I always get itchy for jumpers and boots by mid-August!!
Ha ha me too Rachel, I’m already missing my opaque tights! xx
Oh man those shoes…. straight in basket.
I have bought a LOT of stuff recently and it’s all your fault RMS… and mostly you Charlotte 🙂
I LOVE saltwater sandals, I’ve owned mine for a year and a half and they look brand new, i’ve even had comments from my mum about how amazed she is that they look barely worn. I’ve worn them from the second I got them with no blisters and there’s no end to me recommending them to people!
