At least according to Topshop’s Which Girl Are You style quiz which I took the other day. At first I was surprised, I mean I own several pretty floral dresses, a couple of skirts and a sizeable collection of heels.
But then I thought about it, my wardrobe is mostly made up of jeans, shirts and trainers and when I do wear a dress or skirt I tend to add a pair of biker boots and throw a military style jacket over the top to make the overall look less girly. And, to be honest, I rarely wear heels, preferring the aforementioned biker boots or trainers.
I thought about it some more and the evidence grew.
I’d much rather watch a boxing film (see Southpaw) than a rom com (although I very much enjoyed Man Up, scripted by the very talented Tess Morris, who I was lucky enough to work many years ago on the now defunct 19 magazine).
When it comes to the freebie magazines given out at tube stations every week I’d take Shortlist (aimed at ‘smart British urban men’) over Stylist (a ‘freemium’ weekly aimed at ‘professional women’) any day of the week. The features are so much more varied, interesting and funny.
You’re more likely to see me in a boxing class than a barre class (I do the odd barre class too, but in the last one I went to I managed to kick the teacher by accident).
And then I thought about the last couple of items of clothing I bought and the things on my wish list. I’m only not wearing this flannel shirt when it’s in the wash. I’m throwing this jacket over everything. I’m loving this military shirt and these jeans. And if I didn’t already have two pairs of black Nikes I would totally be buying these. Topshop, hat tip to you, you know me better than I know myself.
Anyone else done the Topshop style quiz? What kind of girl are you? If you haven’t done it it’s kinda cool, you get lots of recommendations of things to buy, like having your own personal shopper.
I did this quiz a couple of days ago too! I came up as Rebel Girl. I’m definitely interested in the clothes they recommend as I don’t have much time for shopping with 2 little ones to look after, I might end up ordering a few things to see how I get on.
I was wondering what some of the other outcomes were Anna! I like that you can say whether you like the things they’ve chosen for you or not and so that over time the edit should get even closer to the stuff really love wearing.
I got “Chic Girl” which at first I didn’t agree with because I think my style is quite thrown together, but when I actually looked at the pieces it recommends I liked most of them! It described the style as “clean silhouettes” which I suppose is very me, especially going into A/W where I pretty much live in skinny jeans, ballet pumps and a camel coat. I’m in desperate need of some new work clothes so I might invest in a few of the recommendations to try it out.
I’m a bit of a fan of a camel coat and skinny jean too Sarah but I would add a hoodie underneath the coat and wear with biker boots or trainers, definitely a Tomboy Girl!
Loved this quiz – I also came out as chic girl..(as a mum of a toddler and part time worker I rarely feel chic!) but impressed with the detail and some of the suggestions. I might actually buy the white cotton shirt that was suggested.
I think it’s unlikely I would ever come out as chic girl in a quiz Sarah! Don’t often do quizzes, but love this one too!
will be doing this quiz. lol. xx
I’ve literally just done this quiz Miranda and also came up as Tomboy Girl which I have to say I don’t think I am at all. That said I did like some of the recommendations that were generated at the end so it’s not a total flop. I’m curious though and wonder if some of the questions I was in two minds about might have created a different outcome. Perhaps I should go back and have another go…
You should totally have another go Lolly. Tbh on another day I might have answered some questions differently and ended up as someone totally different!
Oooh, I am a glossy girl. Which is totes true for work if a little less so for the weekends but even then, I like to be a bit pulled together. Weirdly, I didn’t like *that* many recommendations (though the ‘edit’ section was pretty spot on, cobalt blue lace pencil skirt anyone? yes please!)
I have to say I didn’t love every single recommendation for me either Claire. I wonder if it gets better the more you tell it what you did and didn’t like. That could be very dangerous for the bank balance!
I got Tomboy Girl but am not surprised about that as I live in jeans and trainers, hoodies occassionally. Some of the suggestions were nice. The only time I get glammed up is for going to posh meals or weddings . Otherwise if i wear a skater dress, biker boots or spiky wedges is the footwear I will wear with it.
I’m a lover of wedge heels with a dress too Shona!
