I won’t lie. Sometimes it kills me to give away my go-to product secrets. Call me a vain, heartless and mean so and so if you will but there are occasions where I just want to have things for me. Bottles, tubes and pots of magic that I know make significant improvements to my beauty routine and that I selfishly want to keep to MYSELF.
One of my if-they-ever-discontinue-this-there-would-be-hysterics favourites is Michael Van Clarke’s 3 More Inches Volumising Hair Mousse.
I had never heard of Michael – apparently he’s the brother of the sandy coiffed Nicky Clarke (no, I don’t get the “van” thing either but it does sound kind of fancy) and he has a very popular salon in Marylebone.
I received his genius goop in a goody bag from a Mathew Williamson store collection launch a couple of years ago and I have never looked back. It gives my typically baby fine blonde locks that slightly beachy “textured” malleable quality that means it can be fluffed up and moved about a bit without feeling crunchy or greasy.
And I swear, the thickness is increased three fold.
I apply a generous dollop to towel dried hair every time I wash, I apply mainly to roots (up and underneath in a kind of “pushing” motion, never across the top of the hair cuticle) and then the rest pulled through the entire length. I use a wide toothed comb for even distribution.
I firmly believe the mousse also makes drying your barnet quicker (I use a Parlux hair dryer, another staple) and the condition significantly better. Considering I bleach and backcomb the living daylights out of mine as well as applying intense heat at least five days a week, my hairdresser always comments on how soft and un-damaged it appears.
I think I might be in love with Michael a bit.
Three More Inches Volumising Mousse is £12.50 at Space NK.
There we are, I’ve let the haircare cat out of the bag, sharing is caring and all that.
But be warned. This will be a long-term relationship.
And if you think you might have a mousse to rival my (now not so) secret find then I demand you include the the details in the comments section below IMMEDIATELY…..ok?
Yay hair secrets! Love it and I am going to go order me some right.this.second.
I love the blog! I am getting a good look round it today from my settee and already I am hooked!!
Congrats guys!
Mousse that doesn’t leave it crunchy is a first, I hate that and so hardly ever use it! But seen as how you say this doesn’t crunch it….I’m going to give it a bash! xx
Honestly – it’s like nothing I’ve ever tried before, even my hairdresser said the same and she’s tried EVERYTHING!
So glad to you have your lovely self on board the Rock My Style train x
Ooh thanks for the tip, I too have tried all the lotions and potions out there but will give this a go. I am currently using TiGi Bed Head Totally Baked Volumizing and Prepping Hair Meringue. It gives great volume, no stickiness or crunching and smells of lemon meringue pie! Delish x
It smells like lemon meringue pie?! SOLD.
Sold! to the lady with more hair and makeup stuff than is *strictly* necessary but who cares?!?!
Claire – I actually did a bit of a “sort out” of my make-up last night. I’m afraid to say I am ashamed – stuff I forgot I even bought and loads of products that I simply don’t use…..I’m glad I’m not alone 🙂
I’m taking a distinctly ‘what the eye doesn’t see’ approach to mine. If I don’t think about, it doesn’t count right??
Ha ha yes! I shut lots of mine in a cupboard 🙂 would love to know how to “organise” everything though, I’m hoping Lauren will do a post on here so I can learn some styling tips (!)
It’s all about the muji clear Perspex storage. Then rather than naughty shopping you can say you’re a ‘collector’! Well it’s more fun than stamps 🙂
I Love Muji, I always want to buy loads of the “mini” items they stock in there – thanks for the tip Becki, will have a butchers x
This is amazing. I’ve often admired you’re perfectly dishevelled bouff my dear, now I know why.
I’ve shared my hair favourite over on RMW, but there’s always room for repetition. It’s a cheap and cheerful supermarket buy that works WONDERS… gravity defying 90’s Cindy Crawford style roots of joy – V05 Instant Oomph Powder. Glorious stuff.
p.s. Charlotte – that nail varnish colour is a killer! xx
Ahh yes the infamous powder! apparently bumble and bumble do some new stuff – I’m keen to try. The nail polish is the minty green one by Nails Inc x
Charlotte do your tiny-well-cute plaits stay in all by themselves? i used to frazzle mine with my GHD’s but the smell of burnt hair wasn’t the best! xxx
Ha ha yes – at least for the most part, I swear that’s the mousse too! I just get the ends a bit damp with water, press the ends together a bit and blast with the hairdryer. Sometimes I leave them in so long they turn into knots. I know – so glamorous.
🙂
ooooh – will be giving this a try for sure!! I have a fair amount of hair but it’s really fine – I have often lusted after a Bardot style beehive only to give up after hours of backcoming making my hair look like I have been dragged through a hedge backwards but still lacking in volume!! this may just be my saviour!! xx
Found it on Beauty Bay for £11.25 and free delivery… hurrah!
Absolute genius… i’ve just ordered some from there!!
Oooohhhh I like the look of this!!
PS love the new site 🙂
