Although there is no denying actor Jamie Dornan is very pleasing to the eye, it was Gillian Anderson’s wardrobe in BBC’s The Fall that was the object of my Thursday evening affections. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a blouse worn in such a sophisticated yet subtly sexy way.

Ahem, I say subtle but on occasion (especially with a teeny tiny peek of lace brassiere) Madame Anderson was anything but.

Love. Her.

Maybe I’ve got it all wrong, perhaps pre-Gillian I associated the blouse with dreary workwear and this was an entirely unfounded assumption. You’ve just got to know how to wear it, and which style suits you I guess. I am very very excited by all of the blouse-y type tops that have been appearing in high street stores these past few weeks. And yes, I must admit to investing in more than a few.

I think they can look pretty yet informal tucked into jeans or more dressy with a skirt/tailored trousers (I wore the black and white version of the mustard pussy bow that Miranda shared recently out to dinner tucked into a leather skirt on Saturday night). I also like to wear mine untucked but underneath a fine knit jumper for a bit of preppy chic.

Before I share my favourites (and just for the record, we don’t have an affiliation with Zara (!) – they just seem to have some of the loveliest designs at the moment) can I just ask what actually qualifies as a “blouse”? I see it as essentially a shirt but with flounce. I don’t think a blouse can’t be a blouse just because it has buttons/is more fitted per se…. What do you think? And how do you wear yours? I am especially interested in those of you super stylish lot that dare to flash a glimpse of Gillian-inspired undergarments.

Contrast Printed Blouse £25.99

I like prints. A lot. This one is rather smart although the model looks lovely pairing hers with pale blue denim. You can buy one yourself from Zara.

Draped Front Blouse £36.00

My friend Kelly just bought this in the pale lavender grey, it is so so flattering. I am very fond of the navy blue version. You can purchase either hue from Topshop.

Tie-Neck with Cut Out £25.99

I actually have this in a brown/mustard/black colour way which they don’t appear to stock anymore. This green is perfect for Spring though, I love the cut out detail at the back in particular. Where from I hear you ask? Yep you guessed it, Zara.

Piped Detail Blouse £32.00

I like this for casual in the utility green hue, mind you, the monochrome is equally as attractive. Perhaps I should buy both? You can also bag one (or both) from Warehouse via ASOS.

Polka Dot With Neck Tie £39.99

This is my favourite. The polka dot pattern is ever so delicate and the neck tie detail adds some swish. I like to wear it tucked in to my black flared jeans or aforementioned leather skirt. You can add this to your virtual basket at Zara.

Also, how good was Gillian’s “The Fall” make-up?! I’ve actually tried to get in contact with the team that created her look ( they are based in Belfast) in the vain hope they might share what products they used with Rock My Style.

I am such a fan girl.
