My friend Ellie got engaged on Christmas Day and the big day is set for late November. Earlier this year I was delighted when she asked me to join some of my other close friends as her ‘something blue’.

I have to admit the concept wasn’t one I was familiar with, however essentially we are joining Ellie’s Bridal Brigade; helping out with a few jobs (I get to use blackboard paint – hooray!) and get to lend a hand whenever she needs one.
It’s an ace role and I am so honoured to be a part of Eleanor & Mike’s big day, however the impending nuptials have got me in clothing predicament.

Obviously I need to wear ‘something blue’ which in principle is quite straight forward but I haven’t found anything I’ve fallen in love with yet. Two of my friends already have navy lace frocks of some variety so I don’t want to deviate too much and look like I didn’t get the memo.

Here a a few pieces I’ve considered but I would literally be overjoyed if you could share any dresses you’ve seen on the High Street that may be suitable.

Little Mistress Embroidered Mesh Prom Dress with Necklace Detail, £65.00, Asos

I’m a big fan of the subdued colour, the embroidery and slightly swooshy skirt on this Little Mistress Prom Dress

Ionia Dress, £125, Coast

The first choice of many a wedding guest, Coast always does occasion wear well. The pretty cap sleeves on this chiffon dress are really feminine as is the cinched waist.

Lace Dress, £69.99, Zara

This is the usual kind of shape I go for as it’s a flattering cut for me. However I’m not convinced the simple Zara Lace Dress is fancy enough for such a special occasion?

Metallic Gown, £79.99, Mango

Ellie’s candlelit ceremony is taking place at dusk in an epic bomb-blitzed chapel. It’s going to be massively atmospheric but the bride has warned it may be a bit chilly. This long sleeved metallic gown would be great to keep chills at bay but I think the jerseyesque style bottom may be a bit too casual.

Sheer Floral Lace Dress, £249, Ted Baker

The fit-and-flare shape of this Ted Baker Lace Dress is elegant. Love how the brighter cobalt blue adds a twist to a classic however it’s just a bit too expensive for me.

One Shoulder Cut Off Jumpsuit, £50, Asos

So this is a bit of a wildcard. I normally wouldn’t hesitate about buying a jumpsuit for a wedding but is a navy all-in-one a bit too edgy for a ‘something blue’?

Please, please, please send through any suggestions you have for blue occasion wear. I need help!
