BRRRR how cold is it at the moment? I’m a summer girl, through and through, so I’m living for the days when we get a bit of wintry sun. The letter board in my kitchen currently reads: “Dear Summer. Please come back”. But until that time, lets hunker down and pile on the layers and talk go-to shops for winterwear.

Boots {Joules}

My obsession with hiking boots started when I wrote this post about the Joules #bootswiththefur. The hiking boot trend has gone into overdrive recently, with Holly Willoughby wearing them in the jungle and Kate Middleton donning a pair whilst on a trip to a community garden in North London. I loved my Joules ones so much that I also splashed out on a black pair. (If they’re low in stock online, try your nearest Joules store. I was in the Stratford branch the other day and there were heaps). I’m also a recent convert to Joules wellies – the chunky strap on these Biker Premium Wellies gives ‘em a bit of an edgy twist.

Dresses {Hush, Topshop and Oliver Bonas}

I can’t pick just one shop for dresses, so I’ve picked three that I go back to time and time again. Hush do gorgeous dresses that are excellent quality. I team the Drew with a biker jacket and the aforementioned black hiking boots. Topshop are my fave for pinafore dresses: I wear a burgundy cord pinafore from Topshop on REPEAT with a roll-neck and black tights. And HOW GOOD are the jumper dresses at Oliver Bonas at the mo?

Trainers {Superga}

My white leather Supergas have been worn and washed so many times that the ‘SUPERGA’ label on the heel of my right shoe now reads ‘SUPER’. I need a new pair, pronto. Because they’re leather, they keep my toes toasty even if I’ve got bare ankles. I’ve also got a pair of black canvas Supergas which look ace with tights, and can be worn on walks/in muddy playgrounds yet still look respectable. And if you just can’t bear to expose those ankles then these hi-tops may be just the ticket.

Cardigans {H&M}

A good grey cardie is an absolute winter staple. H&M and Zara are my go-to shops for cardies, I bought this grey rib-knit around this time last year and have worn it so much that I also treated myself to the black version. It’s perfect for throwing over Breton tees and dresses, and is so versatile that it’s the one cardie that I take on holiday for cooler evenings/scrunching up and using as a pillow on the plane.

Leggings {Mint Velvet}

On days when I want to wear a dress but it’s just too cold for tights, I’ve been wearing leggings under my hiking boots. I’m ultra fussy about leggings and cannot abide the ones that are too short/too shiny/the ones that go baggy around the ankle. For thick, tuck-in-your-tummy leggings, go to Mint Velvet, and for a cheapie pair that you don’t mind getting trashed at the gym, head to H&M. I’ve just bought myself a pair of the £8.99 H&M ones and I’m impressed.
