Most of us have the tendency to tone down the heavy make-up in the summer. However the warmer weather also brings an influx of weddings, christenings and other summer bashes where I’m sure melt-proof make-up is a priority. Well help is at hand and once again we join the lovely make-up artists from the RMW Love Lust List sharing their tips on keeping your face in place when the temperature starts to soar.

Skincare

For skin, I believe skin care is so important, so to make your make-up last all day, you need to look at your skin care regime. Cleansing every day is so important and using the correct moisturiser for your skin will create the perfect base for your foundation. {Evie Smith}

Primer

The best way of giving your base longevity is applying your makeup in thin layers. Buff with a blending brush so your foundation really does become like a second skin and ensure that the foundation does suit your skin type. For example, If you have oily skin, go for a matte primer such as Illamasqua Matte Primer and buff your foundation with an extra layer of matte power to ‘set’. {Kate Smith}

Once your moisturizer has had a few minutes to sink in, try a primer to absorb excess oil and give your base better ‘grip’ – Max Factor’s Facefinity All Day Primer is a great drugstore choice and has SPF 20 so its great for protecting your skin if say you’re standing outside a lot at a summer event such as a wedding or the horse races. If you have super-oily skin, try Becca’s Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector which is a hardcore mattifier for the t-zone! {Catherine Bailey}

Foundation

One of my all time favourites is MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation this has great all day wear, is great for all skin types, has a medium coverage and works well in heat and on stage. I did a wedding in Barcelona Last summer, I used this foundation on the bride, mother in-law and bridesmaids who were all out in 30 degree heat from 2pm in the afternoon. The makeup was still going strong well in to the night. {Charlene Williams}

For a look that is going to stay put it’s all about the layers! Apply a thin layer of your foundation/concealer and build up to the desired coverage. A brilliant stay put product that dries matte is MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer which doesn’t budge. Don’t forget to set with a lightweight powder, again building up the layers, Laura Mercier Translucent Powder is great for this. Top off with a fixing spray to hold that beautiful makeup in place, my go to is {Elle Hitchins}

Eyes

To keep eye make-up in place, my absolute favourite product is SmashBox 24 Hour Primer. It is near bullet proof and you can go about your day in confidence that your eye make-up will stay put for as long as you need (just remember to take your make-up off at night!) {Evie Smith}

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick are one of my favourite products to apply as an eye-base. You can build more colours onto it and feel confident that anything you apply will stay. Just swipe over your lids, gently blend with your finger tip and off you go! It comes in a huge array of colours and the finish is beautiful: creamy and pearly for that eye-opening effect. When it comes to mascara I always feel confident using Lancôme Hypnôse Waterproof. It never smears, no matter what! {Kristina Gasperas}

Lips

To help your lip colour to last, I like to use a matte liquid lipstick as a waterproof top coat. My personal favourite is Stila’s ‘Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in ‘Perla‘, a light dusty rose. {Catherine Bailey}

I must give a shout out to Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Long Lasting Lip Colours these stay on great and at a reasonable price, much better than some of the premium brands I have tried. {Niki Lawrence}

Setting Spray

Finally, mist a make-up setting spray all over your face to help fix your make-up in place – tilt your face back and mist the spray from arm’s length above your head. I’m a big fan of Urban Decay’s All Nighter Fixing Spray which is oil free and has a cooling effect on the skin. {Catherine Bailey}

Layers

Opt for products that say long lasting, long wearing or waterproof. Stains will also be long wearing.
Always layer products a little at a time for extra longevity.  For example apply a little shadow, blend, apply a little more, blend, apply a little more. This will keep colour on much longer than quickly sweeping some powder across the lids.  Same with blusher I will quite often go back to blush at the end of a makeup and add a little more. With lip colour apply a lip pencil all over the lip lightly first then apply colour, blot and apply colour again. {Niki Lawrence}
