A very quick hello from me today. I’m very pleased to hand over today’s post to the wonderful Sundari to take us through her essentials for winter skin and super shiny hair.
Hey there RMSers, Hope you’re getting really into the spirit and looking forward to Christmas. I personally am and was one of those people who put their tree up super early on the 29th November. Yep… just too darn excited for this season. As the weather has changed and unfortunately taken a turn for the worst with strong winds, brittle cold nights, I don’t know about you but my skin and hair have seriously suffered. They are already both quite dry, suffering things like eczema when I was a child and having a ZILLION split ends. So when winter swings on by, I can guarantee you, I’ll be the one with awful hair, chapped lips and a red blotchy looking face. However, I’ve recently found some amazing products to keep all these problems at bay and in particularly for my skin, can wave my hands around at how great they work for me!
About Me
{Skin type} Combination but mainly very dry.
{Hair} Dry ends and greasy roots.
My Skin
My skin in particular this year has felt so dry that it was flaking off. With my wedding just round the corner I knew I really needed to change up my skin care routine and get my face back to looking fresh and clear. I’ve never been one for using a fancy cleaner, toner, serums.. and all those other things but before my birthday, I sucked it up and knew I needed some serious help after I noticed my skin practically falling apart. That’s when I took my first steps into Space.NK and was greeted by a huge range of brands I had never heard of. I’m not quite sure why I’d never visited this store before but I definitely felt scared to commit to something new and totally out of my usual skincare price range. That said, I had my hopes high and knew I needed to “invest” in my skin to make sure I felt better about myself and it was in tip-top condition for the wedding, a mere 6 months away…! I spent around 20 minutes trialling out with a store representative the different types of cleansers but straight away she figured out my skin would just soak up anything on it within a few seconds. It really was a battle between something easy; light but also thick enough to really clean my skin. She immediately thought I needed to bin my St Ives scrub routine as it was just clearly not working for me anymore and just ripping all the goodness from my face. Enter in the Oskia Cleansing Balm. Immediately when this was massaged onto my skin, then wiped away with warm water, my face not only felt soft and ridiculously smooth… it looked so clean and healthy! That ugly sandy texture had disappeared within minutes and I was amazed at how simple it was…! SOLD. I cannot begin to describe how cared for my skin has felt since using this every morning & evening. No cleansing wipes, water, cotton pads. Just the balm, warm water and I’m done, so I don’t have to faff with a number of products for my routine.
I team it with the Elemental Herbology moisturiser, which is a light, non-greasy formula which does the trick for me. I can’t say it’s been life changing as a facial moisturiser, but with such sensitive skin I’m just glad it doesn’t cause any breakouts! It does smell a bit weird too… Anyway, on to…
Hair
Another product I use religiously over the winter is the Moroccanoil treatment. With my long length hair I always suffer from dry ends, but this stuff has kept it looking fresh and also stopped split ends appearing, no matter how much I style my hair with heat. I typically use it once or twice a week if my hair is looking particularly parched. I rub it into the damp ends of my hair after washing. Also, a majority of the time I don’t blow dry my hair, but towel dry first and let it do it’s thing. I do struggle with making sure I don’t put it the oil near my roots as I definitely notice a greasy texture the next day if I do!
Make-up
I’m a stay safe kinda girl with makeup but there’s something about Christmas that makes me want to get a little bolder and add colour to my lips. For a wintery touch of sparkle to my eyes I use a light dusting of my NARS eye shadow palette which has a mixture of dark brown to bronzey gold tones teamed my favourite stand out lippy, the Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate in 107. This is the best cranberry, deep toned lipstick with the most incredible texture. No flakes or dry looking lips (shudder) It has the most incredible staying power and is my go-to POW colour for Xmas! I tend to use foundation during the winter months but with my great skin condition because of my amazing cleanser, I have been fine using my Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser on a day-to-day basis. I like to add a bit of glow to my cheekbones using the Benefit Sunbeam Highlighter which works great for my skin colouring. I use less blusher as I love the “winter bitten” look but always ALWAYS need that Sunbeam glow to look bright & refreshed!
What products do you use around the year or particularly during the Xmas time? Or what about in the lead up to your wedding? Were their any treatments or products you can recommend to me?

Hi Sundari,
Great post – totally love reading about what skincare / makeup other folks use !
Congratulations, by the way, on your forthcoming wedding – very exciting times.
I got married nearly 6 years ago and a few months before our day, I treated myself to a monthly diamond microdermabrasion facial. I do suffer with regular outbreaks, so these facials kept them at bay and gave my skin a real lift.
Skincare – I am a sales persons dream, as I buy anything that they said will give me beautiful, radiant, youthful skin !! Lets admit it – we have all been there!
I am tempted to try Oskia, as have heard good things about it. I am currently using (don’t laugh..) Superdrugs very own brand called Naturally Radiant and I have to say I love it !!
I have been a fan of the Double Wear Estee Lauder foundation for years, but a friend of mine recommended NARS to me so may go have a consultation and see how much I can spend at that counter 🙂
Recently parted with my money for a bottle of Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow – haven’t used it yet but have high hopes it will give me that dewy look we all desire!
Thanks again and hope you have a magical Xmas & 2016 is the year your dreams are fulfilled.
xx
Sundari you look so radiant and natural! Love the way you use colour to work with your skintone x
Sundari – I have that lippy too and I love the colour, but I find it goes SO flaky and dry on me! What am I doing wrong?! I am a bit of a hopeless case with lippy, I think. I can never seem to make it stay put 🙁
