Working for Rock My Style can do wonders for your love life. Last week whilst getting ready for a family day out I was trying on my three maxi dresses with different combinations of jackets, cardies and boots. (All in the name of RMS research, of course). At one point Rich walked in, told me I looked gorgeous and swept me off my feet.

It made me think that I may resort to a mom uniform of jeans and a Breton a bit too much and how it’s nice to make a bit more effort every now and again. The combination I finally decided on was a plain black maxi with Supergas and a biker jacket (mine’s from Mango and is several years old, but it’s similar to this one). I felt like a new person. And after the trying on session, I feel like I’ve now got approximately 27 more outfits to add to my repertoire. Here’s how you can do similar.

The Inspiration

The Frocks

As you can see from the inspiration gallery, V neck dresses work best with this look. (Although I am partial to this Bardot polka dot number and its tea dress version). I’m also loving all the long-sleeved floral maxis that are all over the high street this season.

The Cover-Ups

My three maxis are all summery ones. One’s strapless, one’s Bardot and one’s a halter neck. So a cover-up is essential for autumn. If you want to be cosy then go for a cardi or teddy bear jacket (apparently this one is selling like hot coats), if you want an edgier look then grab your biker or a military jacket. The khaki number in the header is an eye-watering £280 but Asos sell a similar version for a third of the price.

The Footwear

It seems that Chelsea, cowboy and biker boots lend themselves best to this trend, however classic white trainers also look ace as part of the ensemble. I bought last year’s version of these New Look Chelsea boots and they’re still the comfiest smart-ish boots I own.
