Gone are the days when velvet is classed as old fashioned and fuddy duddy. In fact this season it has come back with a vengeance in all the gorgeous styles and colours we love.

Skirts

I think my velvet crush started when I spotted this pleated midi skirt in Marks and Spencer. Perfect for dressing with heels and a cami and down with boots and a jumper. The forest green colour has completely sold out, but if you’re lucky enough you might still be able to get your hands on the black. If not Topshop, Mango and H&M all have similar versions with plenty of stock.

If pleats aren’t your thing then this ASOS prom skirt looks delicious in berry.

You can’t go wrong with a classic pencil skirt, skimming all the right places and creating the perfect hourglass silhouette.

And for those ladies that have killer legs you should definitely be showing off your pins in this gorgeous quilted mini skirt or full skater style skirt. I can just imagine all the twirling action that would occur.

Tops

How ridiculously cool is this Zara V neck bodysuit? I know I wouldn’t be able to resist stroking it so I could watch the varying grey tones change beneath my touch. You could easily wear this to work with a contrasting cami underneath or as it is for a night out.

Talking of cami’s, this satin trim cami from New Look is an absolute bargain. I think it could quite possibly be the best £7.49 you’ve ever spent.

If you’re looking to keep things a bit more casual, I love the floaty cut of this t-shirt style Palencia top from Coast. Leave loose and team with a pair of peg leg trousers or tuck into a skirt showing off that waist.

This Topshop stud velvet long sleeve top embraces the frills and cold shoulder trend making it a force to be reckoned with. But if you prefer to keep those shoulders covered this Marks and Spencer sweatshirt is just as fabulous.

Also this emerald green animal print jumper. What’s not to love? Mmm delicious.

Dresses

So you know what I was saying earlier about wearing a pleated skirt with a cami? Well this combines those cuts into one and makes the ultimate dress. how sublime does the peacock blue colour look in velvet.

I’ve long been a fan of the skater style dress. Teaming it with a pair of thick black tights and a slouchy cardigan, it’s just so comfortable to wear. Plus I don’t feel as guilty when I indulge in another mince pie or quality street (roses, celebrations, heroes, etc, etc).

If you’re looking for versatility this GAP swing dress may just be your answer. Coming in Black, Grey and Berry depending on which shade takes your fancy. Also giving you the option to wear it on its own or over a polo neck for a layered look.

Now if ever there was a style of dress that RMLtd covet the most it has to be the pinafore. Topshop always manage to make us part with our cash and always bring out a fabulous version in the latest fabrics, and this velvet cord version in delicate pink is no acceptation. I wonder which team member will have it first?

The Coast Kimberly dress has to be the epitome of an LBD. Classic, beautiful and flattering in every way.

Shoes

Sometimes all you need to embrace a new trend are a pair of fabulous heels. I adore these classic Topshop stiletto heels in grey and think I’d wear them to death they are so scrummy.

Editor Lauren is in love with these two part Sandles in a sumptuous rust shade, and who can blame her.

I’m still hopeful that one day I will own a pair of Manolo’s but for now these Dune court shoes with front brooch will definitely do, they are SO pretty. Do you think it would be silly to get a pair in every colour?

These mink velvet western boots are definitely made for walking, or strutting as you would definitely feel proud with these on the end of your feet.

Well hello Reiss berry sandals, who could quite possibly be the ultimate party shoes. I love the cut away detail and the gold edge on the soles finishes them off beautifully.

So what’s your velvet crush? Do you like it or loath it? Controversially, team member Lisa can’t touch it as it makes her feel all peculiar, but we forgive her as she’s bloomin’ awesome. As always we’d love to know what you think too.
