If you are already a follower of Rock My Wedding then you will know we do love a how-to beauty tutorial. One thing we are acutely aware of however is that they can sometimes be a little…..complicated. Beautiful of course but nevertheless, rather a lot of steps and can-I-really-be-bothered faff.

As a bit of an experiment over Christmas I decided to have a go at creating one of my favourite looks and simplifying it as much as I could (it doesn’t take long – honest!) my friend Victoria very kindly let us use her pretty face and my other friend (and budding photographer) Lisa came armed with her camera to snap the various stages. It was all very informal and we had no idea how things would turn out.

As it happens we were rather pleased with the results, however, we will only really know if this kind of thing is useful or not if you let us know in the comments box below. Feedback therefore would be very much appreciated.

These images are of a real girl, not a model and taken by a talented photographer but with minimal editing – I wanted Victoria and the make-up colours to look how they actually…look.

Please do excuse my wrinkled eczema covered hands and scratty nails – call me a vain but I am actually really embarrassed by them. Having taken on board all of your great tips from Lauren’s recent hand cream post I am pleased to report they look much better!

This look is essentially a pretty but natural easy-to-achieve metallic eye, paired with blush nude lips and glowing skin. The whole thing takes about ten minutes from start to finish (including base) and is actually quite wearable for day as well as super sexy for evening.

Steps To Shimmering Eyes

  1. A shiny eye crayon is dead easy to use, swipe it on and blend with your finger to create an even finish. I used Jouer in Rococco – lasts ages with minimal creasing.
  2. Line with a metallic liner, pencil or liquid will do and in any colour you fancy. I chose a Chanel bronze for Victoria’s blue peepers as it’s more natural than black but still adds definition.
  3. To make eyes appear extra large I would recommend adding a bit of the shimmer stick in the inner corners and underneath the lower lash line, so pretty when it catches the light.
  4. Add some lash lengthening mascara – two coats will do, I like a clean non-clump lash for this look and this skinny wand from Autograph creates just that.
  5. (Optional) A pinch of champagne gold glitter liner over the metallic liner looks AMAZING. Honestly – not at all teenage, just kind of twinkly…(in a good way.) Urban Decay Midnight Cowboy is a long-term favourite of mine.

Complimentary Pinky Nude Lips

  1. For anything that is slightly creamy or glossy in texture I like to use a lip primer, it really does increase product longevity, this MAC Prep and Prime version is my favourite.
  2. As per above, liner helps to prevent lip goo moving to places you would rather it didn’t, plus it provides definition. I used a Maybelline pencil in “sweet pink”
  3. You could use a lip brush but for such a delicate lipstick shade I don’t think it’s necessary, I applied Superdrugs own “B” range in Doll’s House straight from the tube.
  4. To finish a layer of gloss (but not a really sticky gloss) works well to make you look a little bee-stung. Apply to the centre of the bottom lip and blend outwards, add a wee bit to the top lip too. Nars “Chelsea Girls” is a cult favourite and I can see why, the perfect consistency and a delicious fleshy beige shade.

Base wise I used tinted moisturiser on Victoria’s skin, just blended with fingers and a fine layer of loose powder over the T-Zone to prevent major shine. An illuminating concealer disguises dark circles but looks fresh and non-cakey (I used L’Oreal Lumi, which is reasonably priced and works as well as any other wand type item I’ve tried recently.)

A soft pink blush on the apples of the cheek and blended towards the hairline prevents the base from looking flat, MAC’s Pink Swoon suits most complexions and the colour stays true.

For the more spendy products I have shared some alternatives in the right hand box – please do make some suggestions of your own, I’m sure there must be more cosmetics I need?!

{Budget Alternatives}

Collection waterproof eyeshadow pencils are good quality for £3.19, Vanilla Sky is a near enough dupe for the shade used in this tutorial.

Barry M do a sheeny metallic liquid liner for £4.79 and Rimmel Scandaleyes Khol comes in lovely hues of bronze and taupe.

I find L’Oreal glosses non jam-like and Nude Bob Bon is not a million miles away from the Nars laquer used on Victoria.
