I’ve been a big fan of Berlin ever since a trip to the city last October (read about my favourite places here) so when I spotted Berlin Street Style in my local bookstore the other day I couldn’t resist a purchase. The book is a guide to the casual-with-an-edge style that defines the Berlin look. Having read the book cover-to-cover the Berlin look is pretty similar to my, erm, look. No wonder I felt at home in the city.

Parkas, jeans, blazers, knit pullovers, leather jackets and white blouses are the staples of Berlin street style and (with the exception of white blouses) are the key pieces in my wardrobe. Inspired by the book I did some fantasy shopping. The Berlin Street Style approved pieces I would add to my wardrobe right now if I didn’t already have at least one and in most cases multiple versions of each of them already. Is it just me who buys pretty much the same thing over and over again?!

The Parka, Topshop, £55

According to the book in Berlin you need two parkas, one that’s warm enough to get you through the bitter winter months and a lightweight version for summer. I’m totally on board with this idea. This one from Topshop is perfect for warmer weather, just the thing to throw over a white top and black skinny jeans.

The Jeans, Zara, £29.99

When it comes to jeans skinny is the fit to sport in Berlin and apparently jeans can be worn for every occasion. My kind of place. These skinny jeans from Zara are the perfect wash, not too smart, not too destroyed, and they’re a great price too.

The Blazer, Oasis at ASOS, £40

A great blazer is essential in Berlin, to throw over a t-shirt and skinny jeans or printed harem pants, the book tells us. This black blazer by Oasis at ASOS is a chic slim-fit cut and I’m loving the Miami-Vice-style rolled-up sleeves.

The Knit Pullover, Hush, £59.50

The Berlin look requires a V-neck jumper in black, sweatshirt grey or dark blue, worn a size large, with dressy trousers and accessorized with a statement necklace. This grey lurex V-neck from Hush is very high on my wishlist (crossing everything it doesn’t sell out before pay day!).

The Leather Jacket, Zara, £159

It’s biker style or bust in Berlin, thrown over the ubiquitous skinny jeans or a summer dress, cocktail dress, or even a full-length evening gown, which is totally how I would style a full length evening gown, if I were ever to wear one, I fear looking too dressed up. For the price this leather biker jacket from Zara is hard to beat.

The White Blouse, Mango, £29.99

I wish I was one of those people who could wear a white blouse and have it look as pristine by the end of the day as it was at the start. I’m not. And this is the one item where I’m not totally in tune with the Berlin look. If I did do white shirts, I would totally buy this one from Mango.
