WHO KNEW that there were so many blimming shades of yellow? Not me…until I started putting this post together. From lemon to mustard to canary…seriously, there’s about a million. So there is no excuse not to wear it because I swear that there’s a yellow that will suit every skin tone and hair colour.

Now I’m not the bravest when it comes to adding a pop of colour to my wardrobe. In fact I counted the number of items in my wardrobe that have a bit of yellow in them and I have the grand total of two. One pair of Nike frees (mostly grey but with the yellow ‘swoosh’) and one Breton top with thin yellow stripes (again, grey, and mostly worn with skinny jeans and the aforementioned trainers). However I would happily team any of the following picks with my usual grey/black/denim palette.

Topshop

Topshop is one of my favourite places in the world (I’m probably ten years too old for most of their clobber but hey.) So it’s no surprise that it was whilst wandering round the rails of my shopping mecca that I came up with the idea for this post, after noticing that there were quite a few splashes of yellow dotted around the shop floor. This colour block top in particular caught my eye.

John Lewis

For some reason I am drawn to parka jackets, I think it might be because they can be thrown on and tend to look good with most things. Basically I am a lazy dresser! This sulphur yellow jacket looks great with the grey shirt dress that the model is wearing and it would look equally as good with jeans. And it’s perfect for the strange in-betweeny weather that we’ve had recently.

And as for when the summer kicks in, I will definitely be brightening up my wardrobe with one of these ochre cami tops under a blazer or cardie.

New Look

How fab is New Look for bargains? I often find boots and flats that are really similar to items in other high street shops but at half the price. This Bardot top is a snip at £8.99 and if you’re not a fan of yellow then they also do it in black, white, and dusty pink.

Asos

When I spotted these lemony tailored shorts, an image of sipping Pimms on the lawn of a country house wedding sprung to mind. I like the way they’ve been styled with silver block heels and clutch bag – I would never have teamed yellow with silver but it really works.

Having a two-year-old means that I pretty much live in trainers or flats when I’m not in the office, so I am more than tempted by these Nikes. If you are considering toying with yellow then they would be an ideal option because they’re not as ‘in-your-face’ as dressing head to toe in the colour.

This Jack Wills peacoat is also worth a mention…it’s a similar style to the John Lewis parka but has an uber cool white panel on the hemline.

Mango

I was spoilt for choice when hunting down yellow picks at Mango. For example I adore this buttery yellow cross-body bag which is minimalist and sleek and would brighten up even the greyest of outfits.

If you’re after a coat that is a bit more substantial than a parka or a peacoat (and God knows we do need it some days…I seem to spend far too much time shivering on train station platforms) then this Pockets wool coat is worth a look. Its statement details (other than its mustard colour) are, obviously, the pockets – which I think makes it a bit more interesting than your standard longline coat. It is also beautifully made and looks ace with trainers but would look elegant with heels or edgy with ankle boots.

Ok so this jumper is described on the Mango website as being ‘olive’ but I disagree and totally think it fits the yellow bill. I love the asymmetric knitted detailing and with the slits down the side it is bang on trend.

There are a lot of long pleated skirts in the shops at the moment – this pastel yellow one is my favourite. It is flowy and ethereal and would look great against a lily white complexion.

Warehouse

Another flowy, pleated number is this dress from Warehouse. Watch the video on the website…the way the dress has been cut and the choice of fabric means that it almost has a Grecian vibe to it. You could wear it with heels for a wedding, or swap the belt for a black leather one and wear it on a night out, or pair it with tan sandals on the beach.

Cos

It was my mum who introduced me to Cos. She is Japanese and although the brand is Swedish I think Cos clothes are quite Japanese in style – minimalistic and simple, yet chic, and really well made. This ¾ length sleeve tee is no exception and would go with literally everything in my wardrobe.

Boden

I’m a big fan of a geometric print. I’ve got geometric wallpaper, geometric cushions, I even have geometric tea towels. Whilst I possibly wouldn’t be drawn to geometric patterns on clothes, I would certainly use a bag with an iconic print on it to bring a bit of interest to an outfit. So this shopper from Boden caught my eye. It’s ultra practical and the canary yellow of the leather handles contrasts beautifully with the navy print.

And I would totally team the bag with this super comfy looking pair of chinos…Everyone needs a pair of chinos in their life. These would look amaze with a navy jumper or Breton top.

Zara

For me, Spring is all about dusting off your biker jacket (or getting a new one!). This yellow biker from Zara is a real statement piece and at under 40 quid it’s so well priced. I’m not sure I would wear it with the flowery trousers that the model in the image is wearing however I do think it would look good teamed with black denim.

Alternatively you could go a step further and team it with this A line skirt from Zara. Charlotte wrote a post recently about her new found love of a high waisted skirt and this one ticks all the boxes. You’re welcome Charlotte.

And although I completely wouldn’t be able to walk in them, I think these mustard yellow platforms would look brill with a summery white dress and tan accessories.

So that’s my round up of my favourite yellow buys. Are there any others that we need to know about? Do you wear yellow and if so what colours do you team it with?
