Ideas for gifts for newborns is something I’ve been asked to cover on many occasions, it’s not exactly the easiest of tasks, picking the perfect present, especially when the sex is yet to be revealed. As it’s nearly Christmas (less than 5 weeks people, how did that happen?!) today seemed as good a time as ever to share my favourite pieces.

I figured this selection would work for any little you know up to at least 12 months of age or indeed any of your expectant friends. For the record, all of these items I have in fact tried/tested first hand – either bought for others or for Mabel. We only recommend stuff we personally think is absolutely super duper in real life. Not just a press release promotion.

Boden Baby Gift Set Pebble Scribble Star £24 – £35

Let’s start with my favourite (image bottom left and top right). I bought this gorgeous set of blanket, babygro, hat and bib for my friend Lisa a few weeks back. The grey and yellow pattern is genuinely “suits all” neither too masculine or feminine (in my humble opinion) and the quality is amazing. Plus it all comes beautifully gift boxed with layers of tissue paper and subsequent anticipation. If you sign up for the Boden newsletter you will often receive really great discounts, as I write this I have a code for 25% off and there are also some items reduced by 30% at the moment. Absolute bargain.

If you want more specific girl/boy designs then there are these too. I have hinted at the floral one for Mabel to the Grandparents on more than one occasion.

Ikea Mobile £7

I really struggled to find a mobile for Mabel that wasn’t garish or cumbersome, in the end I had a bespoke one made especially by the amazing Becky at Beautiful Bird Creations (she also created Mabel’s felt name bunting that you can see here). I came across this cute striped animal version at Ikea when I was purchasing some picture frames recently and ended up buying two – one for a gorgeous expectant Mama and one for me. Just in preparation for you know…the future. (My current one is pink with hearts so I’ll let you figure out my thought process here.)

The White Company Textured Pixie Booties £20

(image bottom middle) These booties are admittedly, quite a luxe item. But my are they lovely. So soft and an aesthetically pleasing shade of cool grey. I have purchased a pair for Mabel for Christmas, if they made them in my size I would have been sorely tempted to have matching.

As per Boden, The White Company often have offers on, I bought these with 20% off making them a much more reasonable £16.

The White Company Grey Check Sleepsuit £24

(image top middle) I know I know, more spendy spends. But this sleep suit is one of the nicest I have seen. Ever. Like EVER. And I’ve seen a lot. Surprise surprise I’ve also bought this for Mabel for the festive season. The bear hat also featured in the picture is worth a butchers too.

Zara Kids Pom Pom Hat £7.99

On the subject of hats, this pom pom number from Zara is adorable. And as everyone knows, a baby can never have too many cute items of headwear. Mabel has this in both pink and ecru, they did do a blue but at the time of writing this it appears to have sold out. Boo. However, the ecru would work equally well for a boy as it would a girl.

Do let me know if any of these ideas have been useful to you and please do share any recent purchases in the comments box below (for gifts or just nice things I probably need – links welcome!)
