Unlike Lauren I love flying. Well, the outward leg at least. Work trips aside more often than not you’re going on holiday, hopefully to somewhere exciting and, in our constantly switched-on world, it’s liberating to be out of contact for a few (or more) hours. And what’s not to like about being somewhere it’s perfectly OK, in fact encouraged, to be utterly lazy and do nothing aside from watch films back-to-back and drink alcohol whatever time of the day it is?

Sadly I’m not in a position where I only turn left to find my seat (although I have been lucky enough to be upgraded a couple of times). Until such a time as I am I do what I can to make travelling as stylish an experience as possible. Here’s five buys to upgrade the whole travel experience – without the expense of a first class ticket – that I’ve got my eye on right now.

Travel Pouch, £20, Alphabet Bags At Not On The High Street

One of those things that I didn’t realise I needed until I saw it, this travel pouch is big enough to hold all your travel essentials from your passport, tickets and money to your phone, charger and adapters, ensuring they’re easy to find even when you step off a long haul flight and you’re so tired you’re not even sure what day it is.

In Transit Spray On Moisture, £18, This Works & In Transit Skin Defence, £29, This Works

As a jet-setting Beauty Director it’s safe to say that This Works founder Kathy Phillips knows a thing about looking good on the go. The In Transit range (which you can use back home too) will keep you hydrated on the longest of flights and, obviously, every product comes in carry-on-friendly sizes.

Passport cover, £35, Aspinal Of London

Until they do something about the colour of the UK passport I’m going to cover mine up with something more stylish. Mine is currently sporting a baby pink Smythson cover (an awesome gift from my lovely sisters) but if it wasn’t I wouldn’t be able to stop myself buying this bright orange lizard print one. You can even have it personalised for extra fancy pants points.

Trolley Case, £150, Eastpak

Ever since my trusty suitcase fell apart last year I’ve been looking for a replacement and I think I might finally have found it in this roomy double denim urban chic number (it’s not that I’m fussy you understand, I just know what I like, and it’s taken me a while to find it!). There’s a smaller version that’s just the right size for a weekend away.

City Guides, £25, Louis Vuitton

One of my favourite things to do on a plane is to read a guide to where I’m going so I can start compiling a list of what I want to do (my tendency to book trips last minute means this is often the first chance I get to do this). The Louis Vuitton City Guides have to be some of the most stylish out there and at £25 are significantly cheaper than a matching set of LV luggage.
