It materialised a few weeks ago that several of us are walking about shame-faced, (not to mention dirty-faced!) about the state of our make-up brushes.

Fingers crossed that the sun will come out tomorrow however if you’re confined to your house this weekend, how about getting out your cosmetic brushes and giving them a good old clean? My technique for getting all the goop and gunk off my applicators takes seconds. I promise.

  • All you need is a good glug of olive oil and an equal measure of washing-up liquid
  • Drizzle them both on to a plate and then take your brush and circle the bristles into both liquids for a few seconds
  • Right before your very eyes the make-up grime will lift from the brush. Simply ease off the gunk with your fingers
  • Next rinse your hand and the brush under the tap with warm water and leave to air dry naturally
  • Repeat again every few weeks
  • Voila! All done. Is this the shortest post ever to grace the RMS pages? Indeed it is but there’s no point me going on and on. It really is that quick and easy to de-gunk your brushes.
Now who’s going to give this a whirl? Any other tips to share for keeping your tools and sponges clean? Now that my brushes are all scrupulously clean I’m off to have a manicure. My hands are not fit to be seen quite so close up!
