A few weeks ago I got talking to Adam, the PR Manager at Habitat about their #ourhabitat social project. Essentially the team have been having a good old nose around the homes of some very creative personalities and finding out what makes them tick. He obviously put it more eloquently. Either way we like this idea a lot.
When I saw the images from TV Presenter Laura Jackson’s home I became a little giddy. Her space is bright, airy and cheery, just the tonic to perk up this dreary January day. I asked Laura a few questions about her hipster home.

How would you describe your personal decorating style?
I absolutely love the 60’s and I’ve taken inspiration from Mad Men in how I have decorated and dressed my home. I also look to the art deco influence and like to mix these styles all together.

Your home looks so well collected and curated. How long did it take for your home to look the way that it does now?
That’s very kind! Well it’s not so much curated to be honest…it just a collection of things I have found on eBay, vintage sales and flea markets along with a few house buys from stores such as Habitat.
I’ve lived here for 3 years now and still feel that the space is evolving.

You have a rather impressive collection of art! What was your first piece and where did you find it?
Oh gosh I can’t really remember! I just love to be surrounded by photographs and art – it’s really important to me as I think it tells a story of your journey. My boyfriend is a photographer and has a fantastic eye and we’ve decorated our apartment with a mixture of our collections together. Our collection is so small though I can’t wait to buy more art – my most recent photograph purchase was by a photographer called Jamie Hawkesworth and it’s absolutely beautiful.

Where are your favourite places to shop for pieces for your apartment?
I love going to Kempton flea market – it has some great pieces of furniture. It’s where all the dealers go but people have cottoned on to how great it is and it’s not as cheap anymore. eBay is also amazing as you can find practically anything on there – I’ve actually just bought some art deco gold taps for the bathroom. The high street is also great for interiors finds. I love Habitat and have recently found great bedding and glassware in Zara Home. I’ve also been a fan of indoor plants for years and have always brought back hangers from NYC (Sprout Home in Brooklyn is the best!!) but recently it’s become more popular in the UK and you can now find a much greater range of cool plants and pots. My all-time fave place to buy is Grace and Thorn,it’s seriously brilliant!!

What’s the most treasured home decor possession?
Oh that’s a hard one as I honestly love everything! If I really had to choose I think it would have to be my collection of photographs as they are irreplaceable.

What do you love most about your home?
I love the windows. We have the most beautiful light coming though in the morning. I also really love my ‘glass shelf’ – I collect drinking glasses and I have a dedicated shelf with them all on in the kitchen which looks stunning. And I love the photos above my bed of a girl blowing a dandelion, taken by our friend Steph Sian Smith.

What would your dream home be like?
I love the modernist homes in California in the 60’s. My dream home would be beautifully architecturally designed in this style with an outdoor pool that looked out over a view, however I would transport the house to southern France as that would be my absolute dream place to live.

We can’t feature this home tour without mentioning Barry, Laura’s whippet. Isn’t he amazing?! So what’s your favourite room? I like it all.
