The latest item of clothing to join the list of things that I was highly suspicious of, but now I’m totally onboard with, and might even invest in if I wasn’t still operating a strict one-in-one-out policy with my wardrobe, is the cape. Yes, the cape. As in the outerwear garment of choice for superheroes (Batman, Superman) and super-villains (Darth Vader, witches) alike.

My cape conversion happened during one of my (far too) regular perusals of the Zara website. I was gathering together images for a Rock My Style fashion post when I was momentarily distracted by the cape above. Who wouldn’t be, quite frankly? It’s got a hood! And pockets! How cosy does it look?! Not to mention how swishy?!

Anyway, I got back to the task at hand, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the cape. I’ve never owned one but I love the idea of wearing one. The temptation to leave rooms by dramatically turning on my heel with my cape held up just below my eyes in the style of the Hooded Claw* would be immense. I am however very clumsy and would be more than likely to either take a whole load of glassware with me or get it trapped in a door on my way out. Less super-villain, more super-klutz.

Obviously the ultimate take on the cape is the Burberry blanket coat, monogrammed versions of which were worn by all the models in the Burberry AW14 show and have been spotted on Cara Delevingne, Olivia Palermo, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Suki Waterhouse and Sarah Jessica Parker amongst others IRL. I am aware that the blanket coat is not strictly speaking a cape (the clue being in its name, of course) but it’s definitely cape-esque in appearance. I would very much like one please Christopher Bailey, you can get in touch via the contacts form.

Anyway, the cape, I’m onboard, big time. Over to you. Would you wear one? Do you already own one? Do share in the comments section below.
