We’ve been living in our house two years today! So much has happened in those 24 months and I think this time next year we’ll have finished redecorating and renovated the bathrooms. The first bathroom, the main one, is taking slightly longer than hoped but I have a basin now and as yet it hasn’t fallen off the wall. Who would believe that all I really want for Christmas is an installed loo?!

You may remember back in October we launched the Finish in Fall project. The idea was to complete a small area in your home that you may have been procrastinating over. Mine was my spare room/dressing room. The project gave me the kick up the proverbial to finish this room off or at least make some pretty good progress. Apologies that these images were taken in low level light but these short winter days are against us bloggers.

It’s not life changing but a few updates have made this room a far nicer place to get ready in. Here’s what I did:

  • Shortened the chain and hung an M&S mirror over the chest of drawers.
  • Put up a very useful yet beautiful brass shelf from Cox and Cox
  • Added a teeny gallery wall inspired by the Hugo Guinness prints I’d seen on our trip to the Cotswolds. Not sure if two hanging pictures constitutes a gallery wall but it’s a nice way to display the postcards I picked up from Amazon. The square hanging frame was from Tesco.
  • Hung gifted Laura Ashley curtains to give the room some cosiness and privacy for anyone staying in the room.
  • Dragged a rug we had in our downstairs bedroom up into this room. I bought it for £40 from a seconds warehouse near me last year and I think it’s a dead ringer for the much more expensive West Elm one.
  • Found a new laundry basket – this one from The White Company at Bicester village.
  • Arranged a load of odds and sods on the chests of drawers.
  • I would still like to replace the ceiling light in here to something more striking but the budget didn’t permit. I’ll be on the look out for something in the new year and would also like to replace the radiator with a column one too.

The other bits and pieces in here I already had. The bed frame was a budget one from Argos which was less than £200 for a double. The global inspired cushion was gifted from Monsoon. The shoe racks are spray painted Ikea kitchen rails and the ottoman box is an inexpensive one from Wilko which is great for holding bulky jumpers. It’s no secret I love a bit of texture so the faux sheepskin is from Amazon.
I’ve included an image in the header that was taken in the summer so you can see the other side of the room with our open wardrobes. You’ll notice a few of the bits make a reappearance there too so they’ve all had new homes as part of the mini makeover.

Did anyone else tackle a project as part of #FinishInFall? How did you get on?
