Some people can’t resist snapping up a fashion bargain at sale time. For me it’s the travel company sales that have me reaching for my credit card. Last Friday I woke up to an email announcing the latest Easyjet sale. About 15 minutes later I was in possession of return flights to Reykjavik at the end of the month.

I’ve wanted to go to Iceland for the longest time and I’m ridiculously excited about my upcoming trip. However, it’s going to be cold. And could well be wet too. I’m not good with the cold. Or wet. So I’ve been looking at a few buys that will keep me toasty and dry whatever happens weather-wise…

Pom Pom Beanie, £30, Hush

One day last winter I left my grey chunky knit hat on the tube. It was the perfect match for my grey chunky knit scarf and mittens. Sad times. I didn’t replace it because I never managed to find another one I liked anywhere near as much but – hurrah! – there are lots of cute and cosy hats to choose from this winter, like this one from Hush, which I can totally see myself wearing when I’m out and about in Reykjavik.

Chunky Ankle Socks, £10, Next

My fingers and toes get icy cold when the temperature drops. People recoil from a handshake with me in the winter months. Seriously. I’m planning to wear two pairs of socks, a thin pair and a chunkier pair on top, to keep my toes toasty. These ankle length socks, which come in grey and oatmeal, should do the job.

Stockholm Raincoat, £200, Stutterheim

I can’t remember how I came across Stutterheim but, ever since I did, I’ve been lusting after the Stockholm raincoat which comes in a variety of colours including grey, black and orange. Inspired by Stutterheim founder Alexander’s grandfather’s fishing coat the entire collection proves that looking stylish, even in the worst weather conditions, is totally possible.

HEATTECH Polo Neck, £12.90, Uniqlo

Layering is the key to keeping warm when the temperature is anything but (see yesterday’s post for tips on stylish layering). Like Lauren I’m a fan of Uniqlo’s HEATTECH collection and I’ll be investing in a couple of these tops to wear as a base layer in Iceland and, back home, for wintry walks and runs later in the year.

Superdry Fairisle Jumper, £50, ASOS

My cold weather style icon is The Killing’s Sarah Lund and so, obviously, my suitcase will need to contain at least one chunky knit patterned jumper. I’m very much liking this one by Superdry. Now I just have to work on my penetrating stare…
