How the flipping heck is it the start of May on Friday? April seems to have whizzed by in the blink of an eye and now it’s time to bask in the joy of not one but two bank holidays. The weather is looking a bit dubious so here are ten ideas to brighten up your May Day bank holiday weekend.

Flats

The coveted lace-up style Christy shoe from Aquazurra has paved the way for a load of copies. Get your hands on the Ghillie version from Office, perfect for pounding the pavement on a shopping trip or perhaps walking around the corridors of a museum or exhibition.

Umbrella

We’re still not able to put the April showers behind us so don’t forget to pop a brolly in your bag if the rain hits. A compact one like this polka dot umbrella from Mango can easily tuck under the table while you enjoy a lazy lunch.

Picnic

If the weather holds off then why not pack up a picnic and head out to the country? These super cute snack boxes from Paperchase are just the thing for transporting home any snacks or leftovers for you or the kiddiwinks.

Wellies

Kick off festival season in style with these super shiny patent wellies from Hunter. After a long walk across the muddy fields they may lose their sheen but you’ll still look the part.

Phone Charger

If you’re nipping away for a quiet weekend you may relish in the idea of going unplugged. If the thought of being phoneless leaves you in a bit of a frenzy then don’t forget to pack a portable power bank to keep your phone charge topped up. This lipstick sized charger from the rather interestingly named company ‘Anker’ is apparently one of Amazon’s top sellers.

Coat

It’s so chilly at the moment a coat is a necessity. Wrap up from the spring winds in a snazzy new showerproof coat like this Fishtail Parka from Asos. I know some die-hard barbecue fans who’ll be firing up the grill whatever the weather so this jacket will be just the ticket to keep the rain off.

Camera

With high quality cameras on phones there’s little need for a point-and-shoot so go old-school and grab a polaroid style camera. Fujifilm’s retro Instax camera from Urban Outfitter is very stylish as well as a whole load of fun. Perfect for instantly capturing any bank holiday exploits.

DIY and Gardening

Some would say bank holidays are made for DIY and the queue outside B&Q would suggest this is true. Maybe you plan to tackle the inside but if the sun does peek through then get yourself in the garden and start preparing for the summer months.

Craft

How about indulging in a spot of crafting over the three day break? John Lewis have an adorable selection of haberdashery bits and pieces to keep your fingers entertained including this lovely Malmo collection.

Duvet Cover

If none of the above appeal and you just feel like having a duvet day and a Netflix binge then how about splashing out on a new duvet cover? The White Company have some beautiful luxury linens guaranteed to have you hiding under the covers until Tuesday.

So what does the long weekend hold for you? I’m staying local and seeing family and friends and throwing in a bit of DIY for good measure. As I’ll finally reach the end of a two and a half week detox (more on that next week) I’m looking forward to retoxifying myself!
